My grandmother, my dad’s mom, would’ve been 106 today. I wrote a little bit about her here, on this day, one year ago.
She loved flowers and actually grew purple allium in her yard. After she passed away, my cousins, sister and I carefully dug up some of her irises, tiger lilies, gladiolas and allium and divided them amongst ourselves since we hadn’t yet learned the fate of her property. We wanted to make sure that they were kept in the family and were cared for as she had done for decades.
This is a similar blossom from nearby Green Spring Gardens. I don’t think she’d mind me showing a stand-in flower instead of her own. My yard doesn’t provide the sun that they need. I do have a bed of her purple irises, but have yet to capture a nice photo of them…I’m either out of town when they bloom or my photographic skills fail me. I’ll keep trying, though.
Happy Birthday, N.
