Scattered

Like these willow branches, I’ve been all over the place lately.

Wednesday I was west-bound on Amtrak for a family visit, but didn’t get farther than Charlottesville, Virginia, two and a half hours out. A derailment of 15 coal cars hundreds of miles away was such a mess that our train was ordered to tag along with its east-bound counterpart and return to New York. Along the way we were each dropped off from whence we came. Due to the confusion, a usual five-hour round-trip to Charlottesville was turned into nine and a half. Yikes. However, our treatment by Amtrak was far superior to that of many airlines in similar situations. We got free meals, snacks and regular updates, as well as full refunds or reschedules. Yay Amtrak.

I’ll attempt the trip again in a few weeks. *fingers crossed*

My mind’s been all over the place, too, but whose hasn’t?

View From Humpback Bridge

While biking today on the Mount Vernon Trail, which runs alongside the George Washington Memorial Parkway, I stopped at the top of Humpback Bridge for this shot. Across the way you might recognize the Washington Monument, the domed Jefferson Memorial and the 14th Street bridge, which spans the Potomac River from Washington, DC, to Virginia. Construction on the bridge is just about finished…no more having to walk your bike across as was necessary on the old bridge. Yay!
