You knew it was coming. All the talk about lurking birthdays, the festive banner, the cake store.
Yup, today’s my birthday. And it just happens I was born on a Tuesday. Also happens that it snowed that day, although I think we’re past all that right here, right now.
A friend whom I recently discovered on Facebook commented that this photo made him miss Virginia. Well, just happens that I miss California, his place of residence, since visiting there a few years back. So he writes that if I come to California, take this bus. And I’m ready to go, and am thinking, wow, this looks an awful lot like a giant birthday cake to me (the cake thing again) or a huge beautifully wrapped gift. Actually, it’s the Love Bus from San Francisco’s lovEvolution, an annual dance music parade and festival, and from what I see of the YouTube videos, a great time for all. As soon as I saw R’s photo, I knew it would make for a very happy birthday post, so today I’ve made it my birthday bus.
So, thank you, R, for letting me post your most groovy pic!

Boy, I am such a dreamer.
A few months ago my mother showed me the basics of knitting…casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, casting off…and for weeks I worked on a scarf of simple knitted stitches—no fancy stuff—just something easy to help me get comfortable with the technique. And it was coming along pretty well, too, almost finished…until I noticed…the missing stitch. Yikes. A gaffe that left an unsightly, gaping hole…one that I knew I would not be able to live with. If knitted to fruition, each time I wore the wretched thing I would have to make a conscious effort to hide the flaw, lest tell everyone within earshot to “Turn away! A missed stitch has left a ghastly hole in my hand-knitted scarf!”
So, I pulled out tens and tens of rows, and ya know, unknitting is almost as fun as knitting! Okay, so maybe I wasn’t taking this crafty thing seriously enough. No problem. I’d buckle down and re-attempt that scarf of simple knitted stitches. Instead, though, I hit the internet looking for a pattern for something a little more interesting than a plain ole scarf…something with multicolors…something with a stockinette or cable stitch…something way too complicated for my skill level. So, for a few weeks I jabbered on about a snowboarder hat…an intricately designed piece of wooly wear that would be knitted by me to be pulled down over my ears, albeit only in my dreams. That is, until W returned from a visit to New York. He happened to come across this one on the streets of Manhattan—only $5, woolen with a fleecy lining, and, having already tested it, it is impervious to windy, below-freezing weather. I’m sure that W is just as happy as I am, as this will shut up my incessant prattle on hats that are yet to be knit.
So, as soon as I master that simple knitted scarf, I will try my hand at knitting my own hat.
Again, I am such a dreamer.

This big ole “thank you” is way over moo, uh, due…
While I was recently out of town, I was floored, tickled pink, high as a kite, blown away and just overall beside myself (all emotions I exhibited in the local Wendy’s while taking advantage of their free wifi, mind you) to see that I was one of the first-time recipients of The Highly Prestigious Yoga for Cynics Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love Award, presented by none other than The Highly Prestigious Cynical Yogi of the Interwebz himself, drjay, of Yoga for Cynics fame. Yeah, that’s right, F-A-M-E. He was mentioned in a big time yoga magazine back in August, ya know…Yoga Journal. For real, folks.
Why so touched? Well, I have yet to open my copy of Light on Yoga, much less attempt the practice, and compared to the average commenter on his blog of awesome enlightenment, I’m about as deep as a puddle, unlike his other lustrous recipients, whose comments are often as interesting reads as drjay’s posts. In other words, I’m not worthy. But I’m gonna take it anyway. And run really fast. So there. Thank ya, drjay.

By the way, Elsie up there is another one of Lucy’s new friends from them thar hills.

Hi everyone. Holly’s not back yet. Hopefully, she will be back next week. Things are going okay, but she just needs to spend a little more time with her family. She misses all of you and thanks you for coming by. She will respond to all your comments when she returns.
In the meantime, I will put up a few more posts for Holly. Please drop by. I’ll try not to disappoint.

Okay, maybe it’s not that big, but I was on a roll with the alliteration. It could’ve been worse – “Big Blue Butterfly Bench Bolted Beside Bush.”  Don’t get me started.
This was taken on another of Lucy’s favorite walks at the Annandale Community Park in Annandale, Virginia. Lucy loves to stalk deer through the woods in this park.

Hi everyone. Sorry for skipping out with such late notice, but a family emergency has come up and I’ll be traveling to them thar hills to help out the folks. Before I leave I’ll try to schedule a few photos to post, so please stop by if you’d like. I’ll have no internet access while away, so I’ll respond to any comments when I return.
Lucy will be accompanying me on the trip, so maybe we can fit in some Lucy-in-the-country pics for posting when we return.
I’ll miss all your blogs, but will catch up with you in November…

This looked like a homemade sign, so it appears that somebody means business, but that somebody has it all wrong, me thinks. “Here lies the owner of the last dog…” is more apt. Until doggies learn to bag their own deposits, the job’s on us, their people, so we’re accountable. And yes, they should be curbed, but mistakes happen. I don’t think there’s a homeowner who wouldn’t excuse a logistical boo-boo as long as it was cleaned up.
Okay, so maybe I read too much into this. Argh.

I am long past due in giving thanks to the crafty Ann at Ann’s Snap, Edit & Scrap for this, my first French blog award–thank you, Ann! Ann’s blog is all about digital photography, photo editing, scrapbooking and anything else that happens to be on her mind. If you have the time, please stop by her place. She happens to be in the middle of a wedding photography project and is showing a few of her photos. Good going, Ann!
And I’m passing this on to the endearing Charity over at Thoughts…By Charity Joy Bell. Charity’s blog is abound with beautiful poetry and writings and is always a calm, reflective place. J’adore tien blog, Charity!

I have another big thank you for Svasti over at Svasti: A Journey From Assault To Wholeness. She has given Lucy’s new 2010 calendar a huge mention by placing it on her blog’s sidebar. This kind action goes above and beyond blogger friendship, I think, and Lucy and I appreciate the gesture. Thank you, Svasti!

The print, “Pallets, Tyre and Junk,” that I won in Mark’s drawing over at Highton-Ridley Fine Art Photography is here! Mounted and signed, it has a beautiful flat finish, very much like that of a charcoal drawing. Printed on fine art rag-based paper, it is mounted on a heavy weight mat board–a very high quality print. Nice work, Mark. Thank you!
