Following Saturday’s successful vote repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell or DADT—the military’s long-standing policy forcing gay and lesbian service people to hide their sexual identities—some folks around the internet commented that, yeah, homosexuals should have the same right to get killed as everyone else. Really? Do you hear yourself? Or do you not care? These highly insensitive remarks, made by those who are against the repeal, hurt everyone…not only the military’s gay and lesbian members, who are the intended targets, but also the families of heterosexuals who serve alongside them. That these commenters don’t pick up on the callous tone of their own words befuddles me. Rather than take the high road and say nothing, these people make known their snide and empty thoughts, which leave a wake that catches everyone.
If equating people by a “right to get killed” is the best you can say about the new-found equality of your fellow human beings, then please, don’t say anything, because your glass-half-empty attitude disheartens everyone and embarrasses you.
As handsome as he is, I’m gladly removing the duct-taped Lt. Dan Choi from my sidebar.

Yeah, I know, and there’s nothing you can do about them, but when those remarks get brushed off as “tongue in cheek”…ack…won’t even get into that.
It never ceases to amaze me that people can be so cruel. What ever happened to “love thy brother”
ann´s last blog post ..Compromise
I don’t know, ann. YFC called it, though…troll behavior. Ugh.
Some guy submitted a comment on my “it’ Gets Better Project” post last week and he rambled on about how God can love everyone without condoning their behavior – but what got me is he, in a very backhanded way, made a very damaging, disgusting comparison (which I won’t even paraphrase here). Needless to say I did not publish that comment. It upset me then, and it still upsets me now. What the heck is wrong with people? And if they want to have an opinion let them get their own blog.
Grace´s last blog post ..Sunday Serenade
Oh geesh. I bet that added some (unwanted) excitement to your day. I don’t know what’s wrong with people either. Reminds me, though, of why I hate working in an office, as I always end up working with someone like that. Speaking of rambling, check out the comments on this post on my FB page. I would respond if it were anywhere near on-point or halfway civilized, however, it is neither. Kinda ironic that he responds as he does to “if you can’t say something nice…” hellO!

Hi there and thanks on the post. It took me a moment to recognize you…you were almost spammed! Anyway, I saw the blog…nice! Looks like you’re gonna have a lot of interesting stuff there. Can’t wait to see your photography. Have fun! :o)

Well said, Holly. The US Army has greatly improved, and the soldiers that have come out are the bravest of all.
Josep (aka Fullet)´s last blog post ..Our Figurine
Thank you, Josep. I was kinda rambling there myself for a bit, but think I made my point. I agree and think that the repeal will go a long way in making things even better.

People are so mad sometimes(!), I cant seem to understand why someone would say this. Its just so unnecessary. Im also a firm believer in if you dont have anything nice to say…. !
Aneyways, I hope Christmas plans are coming along nicely and that the weather isnt treating you and Lucy too harshly. We have two Chiwawa’s in addition to our pack to make 6 this Christmas- utter madness :-D
Take care :-)
It is unnecessary, ruairi. I think some just like to get their digs in no matter whom they hurt. It does no good to argue with those types either.
Our weather isn’t very bad…cold, but we’re only expecting a dusting of snow, so that’s encouraging. Oh my, six doggies and/or cats? Lucy would love it! Have a nice holiday and I’ll see you around next year! :o)
