An as-of-yet unidentified visitor to the Canada thistle I posted yesterday. It looks somewhat like a beetle with its iridescent armor, yet also resembles a fly. Any ideas? And I don’t wanna hear you’ve got something better to do than Google bugs on a Friday night…keep it to yerself. Hrmph.

No idea but wow, cool bug. Lucky me I have all night to sit and google bugs to find out. I have no life so you just gave me plans for the weekend, thanks bunches :)

Thanks, ann, and you’re welcome…no problem. You and me both…nothin’ to do but google bugs. Let’s get to it. :o)
I can’t name the irridescent critter, but I can say that this is a great capture.

Hee. Grace, you coward. Actually, I’m not crazy about ‘em, either, though this one looked pretty harmless. Probably the ones you gotta look out for… .
Lovely photo, and a lovely title! But I’m as clueless as everyone else to name the iridescent one.

Hi and thanks, nothingprofound. I’ll need to search further. Maybe it’s just a fly that got into someone’s paint can…who knows.

Thanks, Bunny Queen. I’m not crazy about bugs, either, but it’s spiders I REALLY don’t like. Yikes.
I’m not sure yet if I’ll have a Lucy calendar…still thinking about that one.

This is a cuckoo wasp. They fly around and take over other bee nests. I’ve seen a couple out here at our botanical gardens. They are very cool looking and never attack humans which makes it a favorite of mine :D

Yay! Thanks so much, Joanne. This is the first time I’ve seen one and it’s so pretty. Funny name, too. :o)
Sorry to say I am no expert here but I love you pic though. In fact, I love all your pictures! Very nice!

Thanks, LionGirl…glad you liked it and the other pics, as well. As it turns out, it’s the Cuckoo Wasp (as revealed by Joanne up there).

Looks like it has been sorted…but nice bug lol. I really do need an insect ID book, not that it would help in this case of course. Fantastic colours. I am playing catcup after being away and have enjoyed looking back over the last couple of weeks, some lovely photo’s of Lucy, nice one for your Dad and it was lovely seeing the gorgeous bright flowers, very cheering :D I hope you are ok?

I consider Googling bugs a SATURDAY night activity, if that tells you anything!
Great shot, Holly!

Very cool shot. You can post that picture on bugguide.net & probably get an ID fairly quickly. It’s a great resource.
