Yesterday evening I was thrilled to have found a good-sized patch of what I believe is Canada thistle. In one of my posts from last year, I was a little perturbed that a beautiful milk thistle plant I had found in a meadow at Mason District park had been mowed down. I think these recent plants will be safe for awhile, as they’re a little out of the way, bordering a park, which Lucy frequents.
Above is a Cabbage White moth that settled down on one of the blooms. Follow the link to see a full photo of this dainty moth and its identifying marks. The second photo is of the Canada thistle’s fruiting head.
I’ll return to this patch often for photos, as all kinds of interesting insects stop to visit here.

Sorry, Grace. I didn’t listen and posted pic of icky fly-lookin’ thing. He’s purty colors, though.
I can’t decide which is cooler, the moth or the thistle. I like them both. I’ve been taking lots of bug pictures lately.

Thanks, ann. I personally like the thistle ’cause it’s more colorful. Saw your bug pics…bee-u-tiful!
Exquisite shots, Holly, absolutely beautiful. I’m glad you’ll return to the site to shoot more for us.

Thanks, Lydia…glad you like it. Yes, that area is next to one of Lucy’s favorite hunting (for rabbits) grounds, so I should be back there when the thistle is in full bloom.
