Here’s a closer look at what Lucy promptly sat on when she took her place for yesterday’s photo. A lot prettier than its name, I was surprised to read that it is often considered a weed though it is many times cultivated as a border. I can attest that it’s hardy, as it was here years before we moved in 17 years ago.

Something that pretty deserves a better name.

I agree, ann. Spiderwort…who came up with that one? Ugh.
I saw some of this during our camping trip in Mississippi last year. Beautiful flowers!

Thanks, Lana. Just today I noticed a white one today, which I’ve never seen before. And weeds are seeming to take them all over.
I’ve often wondered how much names influence our perception. “Morning-glory” conjures up a completely different expectation than “spiderwort.” And yet the second is just as beautiful. I guess that’s what we have eyes for.

Hey, that’s a great observation…and is there an aphorism in there somewhere? Hee!

Ya know I’m thinking the weeds are often prettier than the flowers, and so much easier to cultivate :)

True, Grace. We do have some nice looking weeds, then again there are the ones that seem to choke the others…and get to be a real nuisance…argh.

It is beautiful and there are so many species considered as weeds that just take your breath away when seen up close. Great shot.
