Y’know, on my bike ride downtown, along the Schuylkill River (yes, I’m proud to be able to spell that…though I pronounce it “Skookle”) there are these rocks where there are almost always turtles off in the water, and I’ve tried to get decent pictures of them a few times…which, at the moment, involves sticking my camera through a chain link fence…and certainly haven’t gotten anything blog worthy…but, perhaps someday I’ll get a pretty one like this… YogaforCynics´s last blog post ..Recycled Blogging for Earth Day
Thanks, drjay. Glad you like it. Ah yes, those pesky chain link fences, which show up in the corners of the frame. If you happen to get the shot you want, you can always crop out the fence. Your pics are quite beautiful, as shown by your Costa Rican trip…I know you’ll get that turtle sooner or later. By the way, no fences here, so the biggest problem was getting close enough without scaring them off.
And how do you pronounce Schuylkill??? Off to dictionary.com…
Grace, you crazy! Actually, I’m not knowledgeable about turtle life, so no, I’m not sure that that’s all they’re doing. They could be playing piggyback…that’s what you mean, right? ;o)
I’ve never seen turtles this size around here except for at the zoo. They could be around but I’ve never spotted one. And what does Ms. Lucy think of the turtles? ann´s last blog post ..Around the house
Hi ann. Lucy doesn’t pay much attention to these, although once in a while there’ll be one in the back yard (smaller size) and she just stands there and barks at it. We once had a giant snapping turtle (twice the size of these) in the driveway. I’ll have to dig out that pic.
I love them, too, Betty. I have a cousin who used to have turtles when we were kids, and as it turns out, he has a pet turtle that he’s had for 32 years! He says it’s going to inherit his house. :o)
Ha! Me, too, Jennifer. She’s a crazy one. Yeah, these guys have been all along the pond lately. I guess they hated the snow and cold as much as we did!
How lucky you are to see turtles in a natural setting like this! Closest I’ve come is a zoo, boo-hoo!
Great shot, Holly. Lydia´s last blog post ..Willow loves the Portland Trail Blazers
Thanks, Lydia. Yeah, these guys are very accessible, as long as you’re able to quietly approach them. We always see them right when the weather starts to turn warm.
It amazes me seeing these, turltes are only ever in the zoo here or the small ones used to be kept as pets. I don’t think you are allowed to do that any more either. Seems odd seeing them wild so to speak :D Chrissy´s last blog post ..Skywatch Friday – Red Skies
That’s funny, Chrissy. I think either you…or maybe it was Bird…mentioned on a previous turtle post that they weren’t seen in the wild there. I must post the HUGE snapping turtle we found in our driveway one day!

Oh yes! I love turtles and these are beauties. I totally understand their need to sun!

Grace’s comment made me laugh. Looks like they are enjoying the sun, together.

They did look awfully lazy out there, but they deserved some nice sun, just like the rest of us.

They’re wonderful! BTW, I like the new background. Looks great!

Thanks, Lana, and thanks on the background. I think I like this one, too. Now, if I can just hold that thought until I finish the rest of the stuff!
