Yep, the blog, and I, are under construction.
I recently cut my hair, and if you’d like to know why I don’t just shell out the 10-to-50 bucks and have it done professionally, go see #3 under Seven Trivial Tidbits. Oh, and I’m cheap, too—I don’t think I mentioned that over there. But I’m also brave—some people skydive, some tame lions, I cut my own hair. And as you can see, not always with success. Yeah, a little choppy there on the sides and the top, but I’ll have a do-over…something those other daredevils don’t always have the luxury of when disaster strikes.
And it wasn’t until I looked at myself here that I noticed I have a little more salt ‘n’ peppa going on than I realized. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but why so much salt in the front? And I don’t wanna hear that it makes me look distinguished, either!
As for the blog, mix serious indecisiveness, procrastination and a lack of tech savvy, and this is what you get—an odd mix of colors and misplaced shapes and no header to speak of. I feel I haven’t a creative bone in my body, so blog envy is at its peak right now. I’ve probably been to your blog, salivating over your creative use of color and marveling at your sidebars with their slick placement of widgets, all the while knowing that content is king and that that is where I should be directing my creative abilities.
Oops, there’s that word again.

I think the cut looks great. I’m not brave enough to do my own but I am cheap so I go very rarely to get mine cut. As for the blog makeover, you’re braver than me there too. I’ve been wanting to redo mine but I have all of the same reasons as you and then some :)

Thanks, ann. Actually, I took a lot of pics of the new cut so I could see where all the flubs were, and this angle shows the least of my boo-boos. But you’d be surprised how easy it is after you’ve done it a few times—I think short, same-length cuts are probably the easiest. The blog is another story. I don’t know what I want…a new theme maybe? I just don’t know. Arrrgh.
Well, you coulda fooled me about your hair not having a pro cut. It looks so much like my cousin Sue’s hair, and I know she doesn’t cut her own. I’ve never had my hair that short and I think you are brave.
The new look is more spacious. I realize it is still under construction … but I am not sure the color of green will not clash with your fine photography. It is good with the b&w shot, but what does a color shot look like against it? Hmmmmm, I wonder…
Lydia´s last blog post ..What saved us $800 on taxes
Hi and thanks, Lydia. I’ve worn my hair short for so long now, that I don’t remember if there was any bravery involved or not! As I remember, I started cutting it all off when I was riding my bike a lot…it was much easier to take care of.
You’re right about the color, Lydia. I originally thought about color, then changed my mind, but decided to leave it while I moved my post area and sidebars around. Photos look best against white or black, I think. Ha! It’s the “I think” that gets me every time!
Needless to say, your blog formatting creativity far outstrips mine…apart from the beautiful header and footer/logo, which a friend did, it’s still a basic Blogger template…and how many times have you changed your header, etc.? Your tech savvy’s the envy of the blog world, Holly, even if your famed humility won’t let you acknowledge it…

Well thank ya, drjay, but you’re too kind. Yeah, I’ve used a lot of headers, but they’re just crops of photos—the easiest ones to make. Your friend did a beautiful job on yours, and I’d love to design one more like it…a collage of sorts…but not sure if I can pull that off.
By the way, your blog looks fine, but your content is so excellent, your blog would look good in a burlap sack!
Blog design is a journey, not a destination. :)

Ha! I’m finding that out, Lana. I’ve always liked moving furniture around a room, and I think my desire to change the blog is an extension of that. I know, weird.

I cut my own hair too! Just did it the other day. I have a similar haircut except this time around I left it a little longer in the front but the rest is almost buzz cut short. And I too have a lot more gray in the front and sides…I would color it if I could figure out how to leave that one gray streak in the front…I love that solid chunk of gray – it’s been there for years. One hairdresser asked how put it in, I said “Nature” – have had the wonderful streak for years. The back is the most difficult to cut – it looks a little choppy but softens out in a few days. I actually cut the tops and sides better than professional hairdressers – I get it EXACTLY the way I want it. Why can I do it and the pro’s not?

Ha! That is so neat, Grace! Then you know exactly how I feel…you can get it just how you want it…or at least close enough. So much easier than trying to explain to a stylist what you want. And I know what you mean about the choppiness smoothing out…it really does turn out better than you might imagine. I do wish I could do my sides better, though…they actually lay differently which I think makes it harder for me to get them just right.
I’d love to see your “salt” some time! :o)

I cut my hair a couple times in the past. It didn’t look half bad! Yours looks nice. And I won’t say a thing about the grays unless you say something about mine. I feel a little lucky in a way. My grays are there, but they’re sporadic. My hair is so thick and curly that people generally can’t find the grays because they get lost in the chaos. But I still pluck a few here and there. My stylist tells me never to do that or I will “bald myself.” The hairs eventually won’t grow back, she says. Old wives’ tale?
Anyway, I like your hair and I like your blog design. The colors are very soothing. I feel happy here.

Thanks, Kathy, and I envy your curly hair. My mom has curly hair and it’s just more interesting, I think. Your grays getting lost in the chaos…ha! And, just to be safe, don’t test that old wives’ tale, ok? The colors may be soothing now, but my tastes can turn on a dime, and not always for the better…look out!
Love the hair cut. I’ve been cutting my own off and on for years now. Only when it really needs a good shaping do I bother to go to a stylist. I just hate the whole process of going to a salon.
As someone who designs web sites and blogs, I have to agree with the other poster. Your background is not going to be a good setting for your photos. They will get lost in the chaos. :)
I love your blog, btw. It’s always fun to visit.

Thanks, cia. I know what you mean about salons…and you never know what you’re gonna look like when you come outta there!
Thanks, too, for the advice on the page, and I’m glad you enjoy it here. Please come back! :o)

cute haircut, I’m completely impressed that you cut it yourself! All the way around? Amazing. I tried doing some braids but get all confused looking at my hands in the mirror! Honest. The way it feels is not the way the reflection looks and it totally throws my brian off.
Happy spring~~
Diane´s last blog post ..Another weekend project
Thanks, Diane. Yep, cut it all the way around. I know what you mean about braiding. When my hair was long I used to braid it, and I found that it was a lot easier to not look in the mirror, but just go by feel and concentrate on what you’re doing. It seemed a lot easier. Happy spring to you, too!
Hi Holly, Grace just sent me over here and I’m so glad she did! I truly love your hair cut and I like the salt and peppah, just the right mix. You may have just inspired me to get upstairs into my bathroom with my scissors. For years now I’ve been sporting the bun..everyday the bun. Time for a change I think.

Hi Buggys and I’m glad you stopped by. (So sorry it took me days to reply!) Thanks so much on the haircut. Hee…”everyday the bun.” If you happen to take the plunge, please consider posting your work. I’d love to see it and I’m sure Grace would too. Good luck and bon voyage to the bun! Okay, maybe. :o)

I missed this one and am laughing. Hair looks great, I go to a bloke that cuts men’ hair, 5 minutes tops and a quarter of the price :D
As for blog look, it would be good if I didn’t keep changing mine. I can never leave alone….
Chrissy´s last blog post ..Fairy amongst the Bluebells
Thanks, Chrissy. A few of my family members (men and women) go to a barber also. It’s inexpensive and they do a really good job.
Yeah, can’t leave mine alone, either. Now it’s not finished and I’m leaving town for a week. Argh. Yours looks great, though!
