Here are cherry blossoms as they appear on my windowsill. This weekend we took visiting family into the District to see the blossoms and when we returned, a family member who will remain nameless, offered me a small branch broken off one of the trees—an act unknown to many out-of-towners, as well as locals, as illegal. So, as not to let the act of kindness pass in vain, I plunked it into a shot glass of water. Now all of the buds are open and beautiful, albeit illegally on the premises. Thank you unnamed family member!

tee-hee! the cherry blossoms here haven’t bloomed yet. say hi to lulu for me!
These turned out nicely, huh? Yours will be blooming before you know it. Lucy sends back a big “woof”! Right now she’s furiously chewing on my sleeve, begging for a walk. Spoiled girl! Thanks for commenting! :o)
my “contraband” wilted, cuz i forgot to put it in water. :0 :(
Not to mention the five-hour car trip…drooop.
even though they may be there illegally, they sure look pretty

Thanks, ann. They are pretty, but fading fast. I give ‘em another day or two.
As a friend said to me once when I broke a branch off a tree “you broke nature!”
Lovely pic, though…

Every now and then I’ll mindlessly pinch off a piece of greenery…usually to see if it has any scent. So, I guess I “break nature” every now and then myself. Thanks on the pic, drjay…I am glad I got a photo out of the illegal goods.
It’s sometimes good to have rebel relatives.
Yeah, I guess it is…bright side!

Those are really beautiful! How nice of your unnamed relative to commit such an act so that we could see such beauty!

Hi Emm. Thanks, and I agree. Although unintentional, it was a pretty convenient flub!

They are beautiful. Of course now you posted evidence of a crime on your blog. :-) Enjoy the day. I do like cherry blossoms.

Thanks, Diane. And yeah, I thought about that. But I’m counting on some love and understanding from Uncle Sam if things come to that… :o) Nice day to you, too!
When I saw them, and before I read the post, I thought “How the heck did she get those?” – Those of us who have lived in the area know it’s a “Look, Don’t touch” item. But my aren’t they pretty.

Hee…yeah, I know, Grace. We had no idea what had happened until it was too late. W enlightened the offenders, although I have a sneakin’ suspicion that they were happy with their misdeed… :o|

Well the beauty of nature is that given time it is able to heal itself – I hope your offending relative kissed the blossoms’ boo-boo though. That always made me heal faster.

That’s true…I guess a small branch every now and then won’t do too much harm. Actually, I think what hurts the trees more is folks trampling on their roots. But still, breaking branches isn’t a good habit.
