A Dog Park Reunion

Nicer weather means more of Lucy’s friends are showing up at the dog park, and one of her favorites is Chiarri. It was slow going getting Lucy to play with her, but once she did…holy cow. The two of them became so rowdy, I didn’t think to hit video, hence only a still photo, which kinda captures the mood. (This time the water spill wasn’t Lucy’s fault…only because Chiarri got to it first.)

  • Wow–amazing action photo…capturing the dog in the air like that actually far more impressive than a video…

    • Thank you so much, drjay. I was kinda surprised that I caught her in mid-air, but I think it has to do with the fact that I left the flash on…I’m prone to turning it off. I’ll have to experiment with it.

  • I didn’t notice at first what Yoga for Cynics said – but yeah, they are amazing action shots. Mostly I kept focusing on that other dogs big teeth!

If you didn’t know the situation here it would appear that Lucy is running for her life with a crazed dog in hot pursuit. How fun to go to the park and just run with your friends.

    • Ha! That’s pretty much how it was, ann. They were both crazed! For the first few minutes I straddled that water bowl to secure it, as Lucy and Chiarri circled me, jumping at each other and play fighting. They put on quite a show for those folks on the benches.

  • Man, did that put a huge smile on my face! :) Loved these shots, especially the second one.

Our dogs have never been to a dog park. We’d have to drive to another town and ever since they were attacked by those two horrid dogs who were running free in the neighborhood they really are reticent around other dogs. Bonbon especially truly only wants to be with Abby and she doesn’t trust any other dog. It is so sad. That attack happened nearly three years ago and the three of us still haven’t fully recovered from the shock/fear/memory. I think that’s why these shots are so powerful for me; to see that joy is to see what could have been for my dogs but wasn’t…

    • Thanks, Lydia. I really wish I had videoed…they were so wild!

That is sad that your two suffer so because someone else wasn’t responsible. Poor Bonbon and Abby. We’ve been lucky as we have yet to encounter that situation…as far as Lucy knows, most other doggies are safe players, and they haven’t been overly aggressive toward her. Our other dog, Emma, would only bark at other dogs, so I kinda understand that feeling of “what could have been,” although I think Emma was never properly socialized—less stressful for a dog than being viciously attacked, I’m sure.

Lucy sends a friendly “woof” to both Bonbon and Abby! :o)

  • These are really wonderful pictures — action stills. I especially like the lower one. My mother has a photo that Kevin took many years ago of their two (now, sadly, long gone) dogs, Augie the collie and Woody the golden retriever, where they are both turning and in the air at the same time, with these really funny expressions on their faces. There’s just something about capturing the right moment.

    • Holy cow. So sorry to respond so late, Jennifer. It seems I have missed a number of comments…

Thanks, Jennifer. Glad you like this one. Your mom’s picture sounds great! I would love to catch something like that, but most of mine come out so blurry…either due to my lack of skill, wrong camera setting (which I guess falls under “lack of skill”), etc. I have been practicing panning, but I think this one was just luck!
