The other day our refrigerator died. No surprise, as it came with the house 17 years ago, and it was no young’un then. The new one just arrived today, so no more living out of the cooler. Yay!
Speaking of young’uns, here I am in 1980-something at Times Square on my first visit to New York City. Wearing W’s jacket and scarf and my mother’s fur earmuffs, I am a fashion mess. The best that can be said about the pants is that they’re probably size 6. Okay, size 8. I was (am) an awful dresser, but with my Bianchi Special as my only mode of transportation, I was, at least aerobically, in good shape. So, what does all this have to do with the fridge? Well, the annual checkup is five or so months around the corner, and I haven’t done a thing the doctor told me to do, e.g., eat better, exercise more…you know, the usual stuff—usual for me, at least. So, I’m just wondering…does it really help one get fit by having a pic of one’s former healthier self on the refrigerator door?
We’ll see.

Hey it couldn’t hurt :) And by the way, I love the outfit so does that mean I’m a fashion mess also….lol I’m all about comfort, the heck with fashion.

Hee…I guess we’re fashion messes and proud of it, ann. I’m all about comfort, too. I’m still wearing well-worn stuff from 20 years ago…okay, maybe that was too much info… :o|
Well, you certainly look fashionable enough by my standards…then, the closest I ever came to being “in style” was during the grunge era…when the culture briefly caught up with me…

Ha! That’s funny, drjay. I’ve never had the fashion gene, if there is such a thing. So I’ve given up. Comfort rules.
I’m not sure about the picture on the refrigerator (though you are so cute in this picture!) However, I found when I got my new refrigerator I wanted to put only pretty things in it–like lettuce and apples. It worked for awhile anyway! (Now pudding and cheesecake looks pretty good in there.)
Thanks, Bossy Betty. I know what you mean about keeping it “pretty.” Or intending to. Personally, I think ice cream does wonders for the freezer. :o)
Aren’t you just the prettiest thing!

Ha! Thanks, Grace. I think we were all pretty at that age!

Hmmm not sure I could take an image of me from the 80′s on my fridge. I was very slim back then…I don’t think I want the reminder, lol

I know what you mean, Chrissy. It’s kinda painful and on second thought, I may not actually put this on the fridge…don’t wanna junk it up!
I don’t know Holly…why not just be your current self? It’s fun to reminisce, but really you are the you you are now. I like to blame gravity for my older, softer form. Your doctor will love that excuse!

Hi Laura. I may have to try that line on my doctor! I don’t expect to be that size again, but I really do need to lose some, for health reasons, if nothing else.
And I do love that gravity line!
I think you look adorable! And, yes, very healthy. I think that having this shot on your door of your new fridge will be a fine idea. It’s great that you have a doctor who cares and actually follows up. That’s a good thing.

Thanks, Lydia, and like I wrote to Grace up there, I think we were all good looking at this age! I was healthy, though, thanks to that Bianchi…although I do remember thinking it was all right to overdo the Haagen Dazs because of all the biking…and it really wasn’t. :o|
Holly – you look great in that photo – very practical NYC wear – Let’s see, the clock behind you says it’s 4:39 and it’s not dark so. . . it’s not 4:39 in the morning when Times Square was really, really fun in the ’80s. I hope you got to see some of that action too – maybe you have a photo you could post? I am guessing you were there in February? The only way to get fit is to put a lock on the fridge and leave the key under a rock about two miles from home and have someone steal the car. Every day. Too much work for me. I only go to the doctor now when something hurts worse than the rebuke I’ll get for the cholesterol count that only seems to go in one direction.
Thanks, koe. I remember it was cold and windy and I couldn’t be warm and fashionable. :o) I don’t remember the month, but you could be right. Or maybe March. Our friend D, W and I did a day trip, so the only action we saw was probably the Carnegie or Stage Deli and a lot of walking. I remember that D drove, he was (and is) a crazy driver, and I feared for my life the whole way. I think these are D’s pics so I’ll need to ask if he has others.
And you’re right about the fridge. There’s really no other way. The biking, though, always gives me incentive to slow down on the eats. :o)
I love this picture — and five months is a lot of time to get motivated (and out on that bike — the weather will be better).
Enjoy your new fridge! I guess you could fill it with all sorts of healthy stuff, too. That might help.

Thanks, Jennifer, and yes, five months is plenty of time providing I start NOW. It was months ago that I brought the bike out of the basement and was supposed to set it up on the trainer. That is the next step as even with good weather, I’m not sure I can put myself out there. Ugh.
The fridge is great, thank you. It’s so nice to have an appliance from a recent decade! I’ll try to keep the fridge on a diet, and in turn…
