Monumental Trees

treeandmonument

I was recently away for almost two weeks, with spotty internet access, yet managed to post nearly every day. Now that I am here at home with all the amenities, I can’t seem to post with any regularity at all. I have no excuse except that I can’t seem to get out of my own way. I hope to soon be back to normal…whatever that is.

I took this while waiting at a red light on 14th St. in Washington, DC. Had I been stopped one light sooner, I would’ve captured an unobstructed Washington Monument.

  • Wow, these are gorgeous. The dark and light color with texture in the clouds is just fantastic.

  • What luck! See, that’s what makes you such a great photographer. Always looking for the unusual.

This shot reminded me of the time I drove with my sister to D.C. because she had to pick up an important package at the State Department for her work. We drove down the night before so we could already be there when they opened. I remember we came across the monument late at night (like midnight, perhaps not a great place to be at that time — it was deserted!) and I hopped out to take a picture of it. I remember thinking “this isn’t smart. The only cars around are cop cars.” But I took it anyway. The photo came out bad (before digital cameras) and I don’t even know where that picture is now.

And that there is the dumbest comment anyone ever left on a blog.

    • Oh my gosh, you are too sweet, Kathy. Thank you for the compliment, though.

Well I’m glad you two made it out of DC okay, but you risked your lives and now don’t have the photo? Poor Kathy!

By the way, I don’t think you can beat me with dumb comments…I leave some real doozies… :o(

  • That is an amazing shot – truly there is a “photographer’s eye” and you most definitely have it.

Holly, this is stunning! What makes the image is the fact that the monument is obscured, it is far from your average snapshot.

I don’t think you need to think of your blog as a task you always have to fulfil, it’s going to stop being fun and fresh for you that way. Shouldn’t be a chore! I’m starting to feel ok about my infrequent posting and I can recommend it highly :)

Seriously though, if you are feeling at odds with yourself I do hope you’ll feel better soon. Just keep being kind to yourself.

    • Hi there, Bird, and thank you. I’m glad you like it. W thought the same…that the obscured monument gave it some interest. It bugs me though, that it’s a little crooked. Oh well…picky, picky!

Thank you for the kind words…I guess I am feeling out of sorts, but that isn’t unusual for me. I just have to get my crap together…which also isn’t unusual for me. Geesh, it’s a wonder I have any posts up at all! :o|
