Speckled with today’s snow flurries, here I am with my first finished knitting project, which I wrote about here. It didn’t turn out too badly, but I’ve strategically hidden the poorly sewn seam in the back, and there’s an incorrect stitch right up there in front. And that frilly edge on top? I cast on too loosely, so it now only fits well frilly side up.
Next project? Hmmm, maybe another one of these as I need the practice and can never have too many headbands. They’re kinda my trademark winter wear, and I may be wearing them well into spring around here!

Boy, am I glad to be home, despite the mess here. Today we found a broken, but workable sled in the park, so fit in some sledding around Lucy’s walk…I quickly forgave the knee-high snow. :o)

Awww, thanks so much, Lydia. I think that something like this is very easy to do…just straight knitting and purling. I haven’t learned to read instructions, so when I look at more complicated pieces such as socks and gloves, I’m totally lost. I’ll be making quite a few of these before I move on!
Confused? No, I’m still in the DC area, though I was in KY for the past 1 1/2 weeks. Just returned Sunday night.

What a coincidence – I just finally wrote something inspired by your first knitting post – you know, when we kind of said “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours?” I just came over here to tell you that I finally had :D
What a great job you did Holly – it looks far better than my first knitting project which I’ve been too shy to share (plus it was kinda unphotographable). So neatly done, the tension looks perfect and the colour is really beautiful on you. You need never have a cold head again, a good thing your snowy neighbourhood!
And I feel your pain about sewing up the seams, it’s a total pain and pretty hard to get neat. I looked on youtube, there is a great mattress stitch tutorial for seaming that helped me a lot. I got all giddy and lightheaded when I discovered circular knitting – no seams!!!!!

Thank you so much, Bird. Actually, I failed to mention that there are also two mistakes on the reverse side. When I goof, I don’t know how to “back up” and correct it, so I go right on. And I do always have something on my head in winter, so these never go to waste.
Seams, ugh. I will have to check out that mattress stitch. The circular needles were a little scary at first, but after having used them, they’re not bad. Except I find myself having to inch the thread around the needle a lot, which I guess is normal.
I can’t wait to see your finished cap…the recipient is so lucky! And alpaca…I’m still jealous! :o)

You and Craftybird both inspired me to knit again after 10 years! I really enjoyed it, I cannot see me doing it all the time but it was really restful somehow…and now I have a couple of wicked hats for sure :-) Oh and I despise seams but I found a great method somewhere for clumsy sewers…and it worked for me!

looks good to me. You are probably the only one who will ever notice your mistakes. I know when I’ve crocheted blankets the mistakes stick out like a sore thumb to me but no one else can spot them.

That’s true, ann. I guess since they’re right in front of our faces for the duration of the project, they’re hard to ignore. If only I knew how to backtrack to correct mistakes…sometimes I catch them as I make them, but don’t know how to fix. Wow, a blanket? Now that’s a project!
It looks great! I have knitting fantasies (yes, such is my life), but am not sure I have the patience. I hope you continue with it. And I agree with Lydia — the color is gorgeous and goes nicely with your eyes.

Thanks, Jennifer. I’ve yet to discover how much patience I have with knitting. Headbands don’t take very long, but sweaters, socks, etc…I don’t know. I will stick with it, though, and see what happens. And thank you very much…I wish the rest of me went nicely with my eyes!
