Lucy takes a break from her beloved tennis balls, which usually veer off course in the backyard and land in snow too deep for her to tread. But a good stick is a decent stand-in, and the yard is full of fallen branches from the recent snow storms. Come warmer weather, an expanse of bright green dots will slowly emerge from beneath the melting snow, and she’ll be retrieving tennis balls again.

Pure savagery…the primal battle between dog and stick…gorgeous picture…

Thanks much on the pic, drjay.
I know this look. When she gets a good hold on something…usually plastic…she settles in for a good gnaw. If it is plastic, it comes back up around 3 am. Apparently, sticks are much more digestible. Ugh.
By the way, I forgot to mention that I really liked your snow pic in your last post. You caught it at the best time…while beautifully calm…before it turns to snirt.

Dr Jay is right, this is a lovely portrait! There is something really compelling about a dog chewing something – makes me want to chew along. I think I’ll give that stick a miss though ;)

And thank you, too, Bird. I’m glad you like it.
Hee…actually, Miss Lucy is so gentle, she wouldn’t mind at all if you were to get down with her and share the stick. She might even give it to you…she’s not very aggressive. I totally understand your passing it up, though! :o)
Ah, a dog and her stick…what could be better except a nice tug of war?

She loves to tug, but she’s a gentle tugger…doesn’t get too aggressive. It’s hard to get her to tug with other dogs, though.

Hi Patrice. Thanks so much, and thanks for coming by to comment.
That Lucy so resourceful. A girl always knows how to make do with what she’s got on hand.
ann´s last blog post ..I feel so disconnected
Hee…that’s right, ann. And Lucy is great at recycling the sticks…and plastic…which doesn’t recycle so well, if ya know what I mean. *gag*

Just wanted to tell you that I love the image of “an expanse of bright green dots” slowly emerging.
Jennifer´s last blog post ..Never tasted so sweet
Thanks, Jennifer. This was another attempt at imagery, which I’m not very good at. You do this so well, though…it is so easy to get swept up in your writing.
