I followed a narrow beam of sunlight on the forest floor and took a closer look just to see what was there. It looks like fair weather for this acorn—tanned and capless, it’s just lyin’ around, soaking up the rays.

Oak trees have always been my favourite trees. Or one of them at least, since I was a very little girl. Really enjoyed finding all the acorns that had popped off the tree, too. This one looks very happy :)
Svasti´s last blog post ..Involuntary actions – part 2
Hi Svasti. I love oak trees, too. I love the sound of the word “oak” and maybe for that reason, wished, when I was little, that I could eat them. They may well be edible, if prepared correctly, but I don’t think they would taste as good as I imagined.
And that was a wild reply to your comment. (It’s very late here.) Bon appetit! :o)
Wait a second…are you taking these lovely pictures of nature-not-covered-by-snow-and-with-sunlight-streaming-down-on-it-no-less now?! Back here nearer to the coast, we’re cold, dark, and buried…
YogaforCynics´s last blog post ..Hello Darkness, My Old Friend
No, drjay. Don’t forget, I’m in auto post mode, so you’re seeing stuff from a few weeks ago or even longer. However…the weather here is nothing close to there. We only got an inch or so last night followed by a day of rain. Maybe 4-6″ tonight. I hear you’re getting another foot or more, and W and Lucy feel your pain.
Yes, you’re cold, dark and buried, but I’m with the mom and sibling. Heh.
Thank ya on the pic!
Beautiful, beautiful shot.
I love oak trees, too. I honor them.
Lydia´s last blog post ..Old Postcard Wednesday–Unloading Bananas, New Orleans, Louisiana
Thanks so much, Lydia. And there are so many different kinds of oaks. I especially love those water oaks, the ones with the smaller, more slender leaves.
I would like to be that acorn, tanned and capless, in the sun!
Me, too, Bossy Betty! Although the weather here ain’t all that bad compared to some other places…

I’m surprised it hasn’t been discovered by a squirrel yet!
John | Daily Photo Gallery´s last blog post ..Cheddar Man in Gough’s Cave
Hi John. Just one of the lucky ones, I guess. We do have a lot of squirrels around here…
Lucky you, we don’t see much sun light around here these days. Just snow snow and more snow.
ann´s last blog post ..Dryers can’t fly
Hi ann. I know…I’ve been getting plenty of updates from home and others in the area and it’s pretty awful. However, I would give anything to be back there. Sunday, I think. Hope you see some sun soon!

What an interesting and creative shot Holly. I love it. It’s got fascinating texture and color.
Joanne Olivieri´s last blog post ..Shadow Shots
Thanks so much, Joanne. There was an awful lot there to find…stuff I usually just traipse over.
The sun can make beautiful anything…

That’s a nice way of looking at it, Charity. How have you been?
It is a beautiful shot — and when I read the title, all I can think about is the song “Blister in the Sun” by the Violent Femmes. Having a little cognitive dissonance . . . but I think it’s more because we’ve all be up since the middle of the night here. Hope you have a painless return to the land of snow.
Jennifer´s last blog post ..While your heart still beats
Hi and thanks, Jennifer…I hope your little boy is feeling better…and in turn, you, too, are doing better today. Interrupted sleep is the worst, which thankfully, I don’t have to deal with very much…usually only when Lucy has a “plastic snack.” The indigestibles usually come back up around 3 a.m. Ugh.
Thanks on the trip, and believe me, I am looking forward to the 10-hour train ride. :o)
Pretty shot. Around our place most of the acorns we find are just shells & leftover bits (dang rat bastard squirrels!)
Lana´s last blog post ..Enough Already
Thanks so much, Lana. Yeah, there are fewer acorns around now. Don’t know how this one escaped the “dang rat bastard squirrels.” Haaaaa!
