Hello there. What a lovely black and white shot.
P.S. Update: I have been overwhelmed with work and preoccupied with a friend going through emotional crisis. Aside from that I bout a domain for my bloggingtips blog, the pagerank has to start from 0/10 again and I’ve been working so hard on that blog I have had no time for my other two, for reading and commenting, etc. Hopefully, things will slow down by week’s end.

I like the use of black and white for this well-kept dock. Looks like a nice place to sit on the benches and contemplate life.

Actually, one unlucky tourist “accidentally” went over the edge into the icy waters. Happens he was standing in a most inconvenient spot…smack in the middle of my frame…and he was rather stubborn. Wouldn’t move himself outside the bounds of my photo, yet refused to stand quietly and pose as a piling. Poor stiff…

This is really stunning in black and white. Color probably wouldn’t have done it justice. That’s one of the things that’s so frustrating about photography these days. People don’t use black and white enough, but done properly, it creates a mood much more dramatically than color usually does. Plus B/W photography is an art all on its own. (I’m a second generation photographer – my dad’s been shooting for over 60 years – so I’m more conscious of these things.)

Thanks, Janiss. I’m glad you like it. I love b&w, but am sometimes not sure when to use it. My rule of thumb, for the most part, has been if the pic doesn’t have a lot of color in the first place (which a lot of times means it’s a bleak or moody setting anyway), then try b&w. Then, of course, there’s just that feeling that b&w may be better than color.

Thanks so much, Chrissy. Amazingly, this dock is kept in nice shape. The planks aren’t wood, but some sort of composite material, so they do stay nice and don’t warp. I’m assuming the tourists use the garbage cans!
I love docks and boardwalks. I grew up a ten minute bike ride from Coney Island and spent half my childhood staring at the ocean. What a lovely place to sit and chat. we should all meet there someday.

I love them, too. This waterfront is all refurbished and nothing like when I was growing up. Back then it was full of old warehouses and run down docks, nothing like the tourist attraction that it is today. I can imagine that growing up with the ocean close by would be cool…what kid wouldn’t like that?
Now that is a surreal thought…meeting our blogger buddies. Hmmm, I wonder who would show… You’re right though, this would be a nice place to meet.
