On my recent trip to Kentucky, these guys would be in the front yard early in the morning…on many mornings. Belonging to the kinfolk up the road, they would mosey on down, stopping at my dad’s yard to graze and leave hoof ruts, among other things…ugh. On each visit we would call Farmer Brown and ask him if he knew where his cows were. After a few weeks, probably tiring of our wake-up calls, he moved them to the other side of the hill where they are now gracing other yards.
Got cows? Need fence.
Truthfully, though, Lucy and I really enjoyed getting up close to the bovines.

Was the farmer really named Brown? That just sounds too perfect…

Hee-hee. A bit of mockery, drjay. No, his name is not Brown and he isn’t a farmer. But he thinks he is. He’s a cousin who wanted a farm like our grandparents, however, my grandfather knew that if you have livestock, you need a fence to keep them in—and that taking care of them isn’t a bad idea either. Oooh, will my snarkiness ever end???

Erin, now tell me, in your parts have you ever seen cattle in the front yard…unintentionally? I know you have a lot of them down there so I wouldn’t be surprised… :o)

And Lucy didn’t go crazy on those cows? 3 of my 5 dogs would absolutely go into cardiac arrest if they met up with a cow one morning. They do have sweet faces. :)

Now I can’t say that I would necessarily mind the cows coming for a visit but I would prefer that they made their pies somewhere else…lol Duke would have gone absolutely nuts. You should see him when an occasional horse goes down the road.

Your photos are beautiful. I wish I was where they were taken. I come from an area more rural than where I’m living now. It would be nice to be back there sometimes.
Thank you.

Cows are very soulful-looking creatures. I assume they don’t wander too far away, but still, a fence sounds like a good idea for old Farmer Brown and his livestock.

In the city, this is typically a “dog” issue. I guess it’s the same except on a much larger (and smellier) scale.

Hi Diane. Actually, Lucy was afraid of them at first, yet I had to drag her away. She would just sit and stare at them and when they’d approach, she’d bark and back up a little. Then sit again. I agree that they do look sweet.

Hi ann. Yeah, the pies in the yard weren’t appreciated…especially when I needed to take Lucy out at night to pee. If I didn’t step in it first, Lucy was doin’ a taste test. Ugh.
*
Hi Gregory and thanks so much—I’m glad you like the photos. Yes, this is very rural…a little to much so for me, but it is peaceful.
*
Hi Jennifer. I agree and I just love watching them—I think they have pretty faces. They are slow, but happened to make their way about a mile down the road one morning, before the owners retrieved them.
*
Hee-hee. Yeah, Lin, you’re right. Luckily, we were spared the aroma, but there was still the stepping-in-it-in-the-dark thing. :o(
Haha! This reminds me of when I lived in Tuscon in the desert. Every couple of months a herd of, cows would mysteriously appear, grazing outside our door. To this day I have no idea where they came from. But it was fun to see them out there along with the road runners and the prairie dogs.

Reminds me of my days in Vermont – Don’t ask LOL That last pic of the brown cow (how now?) – rather good looking old girl, eh?

Hi nothingprofound. Heh, that is funny. For such large and lumbering beasts, they do move right along. One morning I looked out and saw them in the yard and about 5 minutes later they were gone. By the way, living in the desert sounds nice…or is it???

Hi Ron and thanks so much. I’m using an older Canon PowerShot SD400 Digital Elph, 5.8-17.4mm 1.2.8-4.9….and I have no idea what that means, though you might, since you asked. :o)

Hee-hee. Hi Grace. Vermont? The home of Ben & Jerry’s? You knew I’d ask. :o) Yeah, I thought she was kinda nice lookin’ too…and how ’bout that hair extension? Niiiice.

Great shots! Reminds me of years ago…I was walking down One Tree Hill in NZ & was suddenly in the middle of a large herd of cows. They noticed me & started coming over. That was a bit too much for me, so I started going back UP One Tree Hill!

Hi Charity and a very Happy New Year to you, too. Lucy and I appreciate all the good wishes. And yeah, I think cow stuff is funny, too. They’re beautiful creatures, but still funny somehow. :o)
*
Hi, Emm, and welcome! Glad you came back to comment. Thank you on the pic…thanks go to the cow, actually, for letting me get so close!
*
Thanks, Lana, and I kinda know what you mean. I was afraid if I got too close, they would lunge. Do cows lunge? Maybe a lumbering lunge, in which case, I should have no problem getting out of the way!

Awww, and she did look like she was concentrating on keeping nice and still too!

Hi Emm. Yes, she was very cooperative. I wouldn’t have minded a snort or two as long as she didn’t charge at me, which she didn’t!
