Me, with my mom and dad, seated in the small house on Telegraph Road in Alexandria, rented from my dad’s Aunt Hazel. The folks smile easily, but I warily ogle the guy and his contraption set up in our living room as he holds one of my mom’s glass figurines—an elephant, I think—moving it in a dancing fashion back and forth across the front of his face, trying to eek out a smile from me. I was a tough case, so he gave up and captured the moment as was.
It’s my favorite photo of the three of us.

Oh, Holly, that is so beautiful of the three of you and I love the expression in your eyes. Your Dad reminds me of that actor, though I can’t for the life of me remember his name. Thanks for sharing this photo with us.

What a great family photo. Your smile kind of reminds me of one that you might have saw on my face when I was that age. i was incredibly shy. Ya know I think I even had that same hair cut.

Great photo! Your mom looks so young, she must have been in her early twenties. I can see why this is your favorite.

Tough case indeed! But its all good – you were being true to how you felt, not putting on an act. Your folks look like warm and loving people. :)

Looks like most pictures of me with the family…have always hated smiling for the camera.
By the way, for the record, as a tow-headed youth, I might have been slightly plump, but my hair was completely straight–it just started going nuts (along with other parts of me) when puberty hit…

I was not either the smiling kind when I was a child and I ruined every photo I was in!
In this one the three of you look charming, it’s a very nice choice. All the best, Holly.

More and more I am finding a greater degree of appreciation for the imperfections in life. This treasure of a family photo is a true gem. And the fact that the image has that crazy little story behind it – the photographer and your mom’s elephant figurine. All the more glorious. Thanks for sharing!

This is lovely, although I don’t think your Dad looks too comfy in front of a camera either. I have a great one of me and my brother where he was positively scowling. I did lots of family history after my bruv died, in fact it kept me sane. I now keep meaning to get all the photo’s out and scrapbook some to go with my notes and research. But, for me Christmas is too much of an emotional time to pull them out…………..one day maybe.
your eyes are smiling. I love old pictures for the memories they bring. Makes me wonder what people did for memories before the camera was invented.

It’s great that you have some lovely memories like that. Those kind of photos are so precious to help us remember.

Aw, thanks so much, Joanne. I’m glad you liked it. I’m sure he’d be flattered to be likened to an actor—a handsome one, that is, :o)

Hi tt and thanks so much for stopping by. Glad you like the old photo. I shall visit soon–trying now to catch up on some stuff. I know you must be uber busy with the holidays here. Lucy sends a ‘woof’ and we’ll stop by soon for a listen…

Hi ann…I too was—am—shy. I’m almost certain that the haircut is compliments of my mother. I had bangs until I was in high school—not that that’s a bad thing (I think). :o)
*
Hi Writing Nag and thanks for stopping by. Yeah, she was about 24 here. Same for my dad. This was the only studio-style photo taken of us.
*
Hi Svasti. I was a shy kid and although I remember the circumstances surrounding the “photo shoot,” I don’t remember if I knew that I was actually having my picture taken. I wasn’t a very perceptive child…
*
Hi drjay. My dad and I were never crazy about being in front of the camera either—my mom is another story. I hope you didn’t mind my imaginary description—it was a compilation of hints I’ve picked up along the way—very scientific, ya know. I had to laugh at your comment here…parts of you going nuts at puberty…hee-hee-hee.
*
Hey there Kathy. Quite the photobomb, wasn’t I? :o)
*
Thank you for the kind words, Secret forest. And I can’t believe that you ruined every photo. Like Svasti up there said, we were being true to our feelings… :o)
*
Thanks so much for stopping by to comment, Diane. I agree with you totally. I’m starting to realize that imperfection=life. And I’m okay with that…not that I have a choice…nor such an imperfect life…
*
Hi there Chrissy. Yeah, my dad wasn’t comfortable with cameras…especially when he was older. I am so sorry that you lost your brother—that must’ve been awful for you and your family. I’d love to someday see those photos, but understand your hesitation. My dad loved Christmas, especially the tree and decorations, which makes it especially hard now.
*
Hi lisleman and thanks for stopping by. I think my thought was, “What the hell is this guy doing?” Of course at the time it was “What the heck…” And yeah, what did folks do before the camera?
*
Thanks jakill. Yes, I’m glad for all the photos…I love them and the memories they conjure up.
I enjoyed reading the story that goes with your photo. You looked cute in that photo even if you didn’t smile. It’s nice to look at photos, huh? I often look at our old photos just to reminisce.

Hi tashabud and thanks. So glad you liked the photo and story. Yes, I love going through old photos, though I sometimes wonder if they keep me too much in the past. Then again, I think, so what?
*
Hi and thank you, nothingprofound. I love the old pics, too. Especially the b&w’s. They were a cute couple, weren’t they? Who would’ve guessed of the strife to come. A story, I’m sure, that each of us has.

Hi Grace and thank you. Yeah, this is the only one of us of this type.
Ha ha…I love it. You look like you’re not quite sure about this whole “picture taking” thing!
