This is the Woodrow Wilson bridge, featured in SkyWatch Friday No. 57, but from a different angle. It crosses the George Washington bike path, which we follow from Old Town Alexandria to the Jones Point Lighthouse on the Potomac River. Jones Point is one of Lucy’s favorite spots to romp and splash in the Potomac.

Woodrow Wilson…the guy who attempted to start the League of Nations and proposed a plan after WWI that might have averted WWII, making him one of the great voices for peace of the 20th century…though, unfortunately, historians also consider him the most racist president since before the Civil War…so guess you can’t win ‘em all…
Anyway, really cool shot!

Drjay, you’re just a storehouse of info! Hmmm, WW, all for peace, but not equality. There always seems to be a hitch to what otherwise seems so good. That was quite a hitch he had there…

Thanks so much, Erin. Looking at it now, I kinda wished I’d centered it more, vertically…

Thanks, ann. I took this through a chain link fence, which luckily the camera fit through.

Hi nothingprofound. Yes, it is massive. That piece of fence on the right is about 7 or 8 ft. tall, so that gives you an idea of the bridge’s size in comparison.

Wow! You actually make the WW Bridge look beautiful….I used to hate driving from MD to VA:)
Thanks, Patrice. It’s really nice now that it’s been rebuilt. The old bridge was so small in comparison. And I can understand hating that commute…the traffic was awful!
