This is the southbound 14th Steet Bridge, which spans the Potomac River from Washington, DC, to Virginia. In the distance, from left to right, are Rosslyn, Virginia; the Lincoln Memorial (white building), which sits on the DC side of Memorial Bridge; and, National Cathedral (gray building with spire).
Don’t care for DC skies? Then go to SkyWatch Friday and find skies from all over the world. While you’re there, why not leave a link to your own skies so all can enjoy?

Hi Holly. that is a really cool photo. I love the clouds, the top part, they look so dark and ominous, yet there is still light and blue sky underneath too. Very cool.
Beautiful moody sky above the bridge and cityscape.

Cool skyscape…moody & ominous in places, far more optimistic in others…or something like that…

The number of layers and different kinds of clouds formations sandwiched together is truly a spectacular sight and a harbinger of rain passing through. As I live on the coast I frequently see such formations in the winter.

Hi Bemused26 and thanks. I kinda liked that, too. As I remember, it didn’t rain that day…stayed just like this.

Thanks so much Janie. Glad you liked it. Happy SWF!

Thanks, drjay. Yeah, just like some of us folks…a whole bunch of contradiction.
*****
Hi Lauren and thanks. And I agree about Virginia… :o)
*****
Thanks, Eileen. You know, I really shouldn’t have been snapping…from the driver’s seat…on the bridge…but how else to get that angle?
*****
Hi Grace Olsson and thank you so much! Appreciate the compliment. I stopped by your place…you know, those wedding photos are quite awesome!
*****
Hi Regina and thanks so much. A happy weekend to you, too.
*****
Thanks, tt. These are my favorite skies. I just love that mix of brooding and lighthearted clouds.
*****
Hi luna miranda and thanks. I think the moody part is my favorite.

Thanks, Nothing profound, and yes, they sure do. Of all the important stuff going on “down” there, there seems to be something more important going on “up” there…kinda.

Hi Icy BC, and yes, it is. I didn’t really think of it that way…
A lovely big sky dwarfing the man made skyskcapers. Nice shot.
Isn’t it just like a dream how the sky seems to touch the bridge and then the bridge seems to touch the water on the ground…and the ground seems to be so near to you…but then so far, because you know it’s just a photo…hmmmm…..
