This post is not all about root vegetables, but is also about my inability to finish a blog post in a timely manner. Is it just me or does it take forever to write one of those things? It’s not like I’m writing about a complicated subject either, not that you should ever worry about running into one of those around here. Jabbering on about my encounter with Facebook just took longer than I expected. And of course, concentrating on the post isn’t all I have to do. There is Lucy, as you know…lots of walks and playing and distraction there, although welcome.
So for now, how about some nice root vegetables from one of the local farmer’s markets? Beets? Radishes? Rutabagas? I have no idea. You might.
Have a good weekend all.

Turnips, I think.
Anyway, ya sure write ‘em faster than I do…

Those look like beets to me. We just harvested some out of my mother in laws garden and had them tonight for dinner. yummy.
Definitely turnips! White at the top and red at the bottom. No particular taste, but good to bulk out soups and stuff.

What you have are radishes….I have an allotment and have grown these along with beets and turnips….I have to be honest and say I don’t know what rutabagas are though….enjoy your radishes with a nice salad!!!!
Come on over to my blog! You’ve got yourself a surprise waiting for you!!!! :)))

yep those are either turnips, radishes, beets or rutabagas. I would say you do just fine at getting your posts out, probably quicker at it than I am.

My guess is either beets or radishes. But I am leaning heavily toward the beets. They come in both a red and white variety. Possibly why they are next to each other at the market. It’s hard to tell ’cause the size is not determinable in the photo. If the size is realistic – then they are beets. My (very) limited experience with fresh radishes are that the root is much thinner.
Turnips are definitely not that completely red. More half and half color (white and purple) on the veggie itself. Rutabagas are actually yellow turnips.

I’m thinking beets for the red root veggies, but it would help to look at the greens.
And maybe I haven’t been paying attention (ok, I definitely haven’t been paying attention), but what facebook encounter? And if you are on FB, feel free to befriend me, though I understand that can reveal your full identity. I do have some blogging friends who use their pseudonyms on FB, too.

Looks like turnips that didn’t want to share their colors in the “usual” fashion!

Look like beets to me since I can see the little red stalks at the end..Have a good meal with them, no matter what they are!

@everyone…this Thursday at the farmer’s market, I’ll try to get some confirmation on the veggies since there were some different opinions here…and now I’m really curious!
Hmmm, turnips…thanks, drjay. Yeah, but 90% of the time it’s only a photo that goes up…which is a lot easier than writing, at least for me. I think I just need to do more planning ahead.

Hmmm, beets…that’s interesting. Thanks, Dana, and thanks for stopping by.

Hi Jan and thanks. I’ve had “cafeteria” turnips before and I loved them. Maybe I should try cooking them myself.
*****
Hmmm, radishes…that’s also interesting, Tanya. I also thought they might be radishes, but they seemed a little too big…at least compared to those in the grocery stores.

Thank you so much, Charity. I just stopped over and I thank you so much! :o) Hey! You didn’t take a guess at the root veggies!
*****
Thanks, ann. Like I wrote to drjay, photos just seem easier than writing. I’d say “I’m no writer,” but don’t want drjay comin’ after me. :o)

Thanks, valerie. Wow, that was some good root vegetable educatin’ there! The farmer’s market is Thursday…I’ll return to the scene and see if I can get verification.

Hi Jennifer…hmmm, that makes three for beets and you should know since you’re a chef! I must’ve missed the class on root veggies. I’m in the process of writing a short post on FB, so you didn’t miss anything. The FB thing has been a dilemma for me. I’d really like to mix blogger friends–whom I seem to have more of than personal friends (really!)–but I also have family on my personal FB and I’m afraid the mix might “expose” the blog, which I’d like to keep to myself for now. So, for now, I’m in the process of setting up an earthtoholly FB page, which gathers “fans” instead of “friends.” It’s more about getting readership than anything else, so it’s different altogether. Thank you though for offering your “friend”ship on FB. If/when I decide to expose the blog, don’t be surprised if I come a-friendin’! :o)

Not sure what the vegetables are but nice shot of them. :-) As for your challenges with blog posts, I have to write mine ahead of time when I’m in the right mood and schedule them to post or I’d never have a regular posting. :-)

There is still major discussion on the veggies I see but the ones at the forefront of the photo are definitely RADISHES….the longer they are left then the bigger they grow…the ones at the back are turnips but there are no beets in this pics….if you are still unsure you can pop over to my blog where you will see photos of the different veg. If you had beets then they would bleed and cover you in a purple liquid if you pulled off the long stalks!!

Hi rose and thanks for the turnip vote. Thanks for stopping by, too!

Hi Icy BC and I see what you mean about the stalks…a good clue there. Actually, I didn’t buy these…just took a pic. I should’ve included the name tags in my photos!
*****
Hi and thanks, DK Miller. Yeah, I’m going to have to start looking ahead more…not waiting until the last moment. Argh.
*****
Hi tt and thanks for the input. I’ve been looking at veggie pics on the web and I’m kinda with you and others whom agree. Those do look like beet stalks in the front and I see some purple peeking through from the supposed turnips.

Hi again Tanya. Yep, the discussion continues…I had no idea that root vegetables would be such a draw. It must be “unidentified” that was intriguing. I will stop by…

Who would have thought you’d have such a debate over veggies? :) (Those are definitely radishes my dad loves ‘em with a bit of salt – just take a bite if they bite back they are radishes… spicy little critters them radishes are.)

I would guess radishes for the red ones.

Hi Earth Friendly Goodies and yeah, I know! I also know what you mean about that “bite” in radishes and if I had bought these I could verify. I think I should’ve taken a pic of the sign. Maybe a visit to the farmer’s market on Thursday will settle it once and for all, though it appears interest in the root veggies has already waned…

Hi Jacq and thanks for stopping by. The suggestion that these are radishes is quickly growing!
