In light of the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, there’s no shortage of nostalgia floating around the interwebz, so no one really needs me to jump on that train. After all, Earth to Holly doesn’t usually do the recycled news thing—not that there’s anything wrong with that. However, I like personal stories and especially liked this one, so thought you—my peace lovin’ readers—might like it too.

I also love Woodstock, though was never really there physically. I can just feel the peace and atmosphere when I view the Woodstock videos, that genuine kindness among people and the music just touched all. What a wonderful concert, an experience which is priceless and full of worth. :) Were you there yourself?
Holly – I saw this the other night. So….. I’ve got this coin and I’m tossing it in the air (like a camera) heads I go to yasgur’s farm tomorrow, tails I keep tossing until it comes up heads.

Wow…that brings back memories…I remember, after three days flyin’ on acid and gettin’ it on in the rain in a pile of naked hippies when I finally passed out…until I felt somebody nudging me awake and looked up to see Jimi Hendrix saying “hey man, you’re on my stage and we gotta play…” I said “far out, man”…it was an amazing three days…we were like stardust and golden n’ shit…

Holly ~ Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this. Such wonderful memories of a time in my life that I wil cherish forever.
I saw this on the news the other night. It’s a great story. I love this couple’s story. What an iconic image it was that the photographer captured.

Hi Robert, and yes, it’s been 40 years. I know, I know…
*****
Hi Ana and no, unfortunately I wasn’t there. I was too much of a rule-abidin’ kid to attempt it. By doing so I would’ve risked not ever again seeing the light of day. Also, I was probably just a few years too young, although that didn’t stop some.

Hi Koe. By now you’re probably back from the trip. How was it? Nice weather I hope, although a downpour might’ve been a little more realistic. You know, nice weather means pics…we want pics.

Wow, drjay. That’s quite a recollection…and I could swear that after all these years, you’re still “flyin”. (Don’t guess you thought to get Jimi’s autograph, did ya?)

Hi Melana. Yeah, I thought this was a great story. So, did you happen to go?

Hi Dori and thanks for coming by. Yeah, it was a great photo. One of those images that’ll join certain others of its time, e.g., the Kent State photo.
Thanks for sharing this story! I can’t even begin to imagine what it must have been like to be there in person.

Holly – we’re back. I am listening to Crosby, Stills, Nash perform Blackbird as I write this. It was a great day. Lots of fun – I posted a few photographs. I’ll email you a few as well. . . The weather was perfect – Hot – Sunny – but I too wished the skies would have opened up with a nice, nostalgic downpour. Thanks for posting such great music. I just started listening to Coming into Los Angeles – I haven’t heard that in a hundred years.

Thanks, BeadedTail. Glad you liked it. Yeah, hard to imagine being a part of something like that…

Hi koe. Glad you like the music. There were a little over 200 songs from the festival, but these were the only ones available on Playlist. Actually, there were a lot more songs on Playlist by The Who and CCR, but I just picked a few. I hoped to include Melanie’s “Beautiful People,” but it wasn’t available. And don’t Sweetwater and Jefferson Airplane sound an awful lot alike? Saw your photos and followed your links…very nice!

Hello again Holly,
Good that they got it on taped, so us kiddies can watch it. (I wasn’t even born then lol)
I watched the whole of Woodstock this weekend, (well what was recorded anyway-some of the videos were really funny, especially the one regarding the outdoor toilets) and was a real blast. Tried to keep my partner awake throughout it, as he kept nodding off. He is a rocker too, but had heard too much. Got truly inspired and touched by all the electrics though. :)
