Today is W’s birthday, so I’m posting one of my favorite photos taken by him, without his recently expressed permission. Awhile ago he said to post it if I’d like, but since I prefer to stick to my own stuff, I passed. However, I like this photo so much, I thought now might be a good time to show it off. Photographed on the banks of the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria, while on one of Lucy’s walks, W doesn’t think it’s anything special, but I disagree. I love the blanket’s splash of color in the otherwise bleak surroundings, and although you can’t see their faces, I imagine that the unsuspecting couple is happy and relaxed, having no worries other than, “Where’s that book I thought I brought?” or “Where shall we go later for lunch?” And not that I know much, if anything, about composition, but it does appear that W, intentionally or not, followed the rule of thirds, and in my opinion, it worked out pretty well.
*Ahem* Notice that I posted my favorite for his birthday. Well, here’s a photo that W might like much better…Lucy, singing Happy Birthday, I imagine…
Much love to you, W, from me and Lucy.

Lovely photo of the river and couple, I agree. Lucky looks like she’s saying happy birthday!

It so happens, Holly, that the “unsuspecting couple” in that photo is myself and my secretary. Our spouses, both avid readers of this blog, are now seeking divorce. Thanks a lot.
Seriously, the photo’s very Bergmanesque…which is a good thing.
Of course I love the Lucy pic, as well…

Hmmmmm … sneaking about like a poor man’s Paparazzi and snapping shots of intimate moments ,eh. No wonder Lucy was singing … she was covering for you. Ha! :D

They’re both wonderful photos. I used to eat lunch at a place that looked much like the one in the first one. I love dogs, and Lucy has a great look on her face in the second.
Lucy can sing happy birthday??!! Oh my goodness!!!
I love how you can sit and think about what those two people that you don’t know, might be thinking and how they may be acting or what they may be talking about. That is so insightful of you. ALthough…I must say…is it not illegal to go around taking pictures of folks without their permission??? hhhmmmm????

The photo you have displayed on the blanket screamed at me to make it a story. What a fantastic opening to some beautiful story waiting to be written. I can not convey how much I enjoyed this photo. Thank you for sharing it with us Who knows, that scene may be in my next novel. Thank you again and your photo’s are breath-taking.

That’s what ya get, drjay, for comin’ down to these here parts to *ahem* “practice yoga.” Now git on back to Pencilvany where ya belong…so sorry about the dee-vorce…hee-hee.
I thought these two looked kinda French (…or Swedish…). Don’t know why. Maybe it’s too much Tour de France…

Hi TT. Hee-hee, “poor man’s Paparazzi.” That’s funny. Yes, Lucy is our partner in crime!

Hi Ratty and thanks so much for the compliments. Glad you liked the pics and Lucy.

Oh yes, Charity! Lucy is a dog of many talents…she’s quite a singer! I often wonder about what others are thinking and why they act as they do. I kinda make up these scenarios in my head…just supposing…

Hi Darrel and thanks for coming by. So glad that you like the photo and I can very much imagine it as an opening scene in a novel. I also imagine that the story might end unhappily…don’t know why, though. Thanks for the compliment on the other photos. :o)

Well it’s never too late for an un-birthday, so happy un-birthday W! I get what you mean about that picture, very enigmatic. You can project your imagination onto it. Lucy is a talented pup too, I can almost here her tuneful song :)

Hi Bird. I think W would welcome an “un-birthday” as that would take years away, right? I’ll pass along your greeting. And glad that you see what I see in that photo…enigmatic is a good description.
