  • So…do they really make torpedoes there?

  • Hi drjay. Only in paintings and sculptures, thank goodness. It was a functioning factory during WWII and actually, my grandmother used to work there on a production line—a real-life Rosie the Riveter.

Off-subject here, but would you believe that my stats showed that someone searched “pussywillow and milkweed joke?” Probably some 13-year-old… :o)

That looks just like the old Dixie Cup factory in my hometown. We loved that building because there was a giant Dixie Cup on the top of the building that you could see from a certain spot on the highway when we drove home from long trips. When we saw it, we knew we were just about home.

  • Ah yes the torpedo factory – I’ve got some great photos of it and the waterfront and Founders Park next door (so to speak). We lived in Old Town for 10 years – just moved away a year ago…

  • Hi Kathy. Okay, are we talking about the Dixie cups that you rinse with after brushing your teeth or the Dixie cups with ice cream and a little wooden spoon? Cause if it’s the ice cream ones, then I’m thinkin’ WOW! A kid’s dream-come-true—an ice cream factory in town! But I’m thinkin’ I’m a nitwit and you’re talking about the other kind… :o( Very cool anyway! (Hmmm, now I’m thinkin’ a giant torpedo on top of the factory woulda been a nice touch…)

Sadly, the kind you rinse your mouth out with. Now you’ve gotten me very interested in the ice cream kind. And, yes, a torpedo on top of a building would be awesome. They could turn it upside down and mount it on an angle, like it just hit the building. Too scary?

  • Hey Kathy. Oh well, the “good” Dixie cups was a yummy thought. And I do hope Homeland Security is not monitoring me or I’m sendin’ them over your way! ;o)
