Here’s a bed of echinacea flowers that has seen better days, but the occupants are still quite showy thanks to those strawberry-like centers…mmm. In the background you can see a brick corner that belongs to the old colonial house that sits on the park property.
As the flower head opens, the petals will start turning down forming a cone shape. After all, it does belong to the plant family called Asteraceae that is commonly called Coneflower.
Okay, I had to get on the ground, on my back for this one. You are welcome in advance. *big smile*
Finally, I hoped to capture a photo of this bee mid-meal, but he readied to take flight right as I snapped.

So…apparently, in addition to helping us crunchy types avoid sickness, echinacea looks really cool…great photos…definitely worth getting a bit dirty for.
…by the way, I’m one of “us crunchy types” in the sense of eating organic vegetables in between the Tastykakes and Ben & Jerry’s…

So this is what echinacea looks like when it’s not in a capsule! :) You see, I take echinacea in capsules when I have a cold/ a cough. :) I thought they were ugly…but they are actually a little pretty! :)

This is so beautiful! I love the texture and the color combination. Thanks for sharing Holly :)
These are truly amazing pictures. I love the sharp contrast of colors. Thanks for sharing,

Thanks, drjay. Glad you liked the pics and I really didn’t mind gettin’ dirty, bein’ an earthy kind and all. :o) I do wish I were more “crunchy,” though. I do stay away from the prescription medicines and may give the echinacea a try this winter if the aspirin doesn’t do the job.
I have an awful sweet tooth, ice cream being my favorite, so I totally get your snack choices there. Now see what you’ve done? I’ve got Chunky Monkey on the brain…not to mention those damn Twinkies—worst edible on the planet. Argh!

Hi Charity. Yep, this is what your capsules used to look like and I agree that they’re much nicer looking than the pills. So, it sounds like echinacea helps your colds? I may have to try it if things get bad this winter!

Hi Vanilla and thanks. Glad you like them. I liked the color of these a lot, too. I think I read that they’re ususally this color…not a lot of variety.
These are amazing photos – thanks! :) I must admit that I’ve never seen an echinacea. It’s funny ’cause I use it quite frequently.

Those flowers are huge! Getting a bee shot is not easy. Looks like you were lucky one landed in front of you.

Hi AVCr8teur. Actually there were a few bees flying around from flower to flower and I was chasing them with the camera…unsuccessfully, for the most part!

It’s been quite awhile since I visited due to the hacking of the servers at my web host and the reconstruction of my site and of course, life! It’s grand to be here and enjoy these are wonderful Echinacea shots. The colors are dazzling and you have captured the full range from fresh to aged. I especially liked the angle you shot the third one from. Thanks so much for posting them so we can all enjoy them.

Hi TT and thanks for coming by. Great to “see” you! So sorry to hear about the hacking problems. I imagine that that was a huge pain and hope all is okay now. I went by one of your sites and it looks great—love your new design. Glad you like the flowers…I enjoyed taking them despite my whining! :o)
