This is not a very good photo. I would have loved to have had a sky, but it was overcast that day, with no cloud definition at all. I do like, though, the flowers and foliage against the row of townhouses, so, here ’tis.
I think that these are marsh orchids. If anyone knows different, please feel free to set me straight.

“This is not a very good photo”–Holly, darlin’, what kind of opening for a blog post is that??!! I’m seriously gonna start on the cheesy positive affirmations if you keep up this self-loathing stuff….Consider yourself warned….

The foliage is fabulous, almost like canna. But I have never seen these before. Too bad cause they are quite lovely.

it is beautiful to me even with an overcast sky, it made the foliage stood out more.

Hee-hee…come on, drjay, that is a lousy photo…kinda looks like I cut it out of a magazine. Don’t get me wrong—I have no problem self-loathing, but that really wasn’t my intent. Though, I would love to hear a cheesy affirmation…positive or otherwise…

Hi and thanks, pyzahn. I liked the foliage too. And I had never noticed these until recently. I like their color.

Hi betchai and thanks. Yeah, I thought that too. I really wish there was a nice blue sky, though.
I don’t know the name of the flower :D but it looks beautiful & yea I’d love to see it with the sky

Hi Holly,
You’re as bad as me. I’ve taken much worse photos than that.
I think its fine.

Hi Holly,
Actually I worded that badly – what I meant was “You’re as bad as me (I’m self-critical too)”
Just thought I’d clear that up in case you read it wrongly.

Hi Doson and thanks for coming by. Yeah, I think a sky would really complete the picture.

Hi PM. Thanks, I knew what you meant (although it was kind of you to explain). Yeah, all I needed was one lousy cloud…or some blue…somethin’! :o)

Hi different thinker and thanks…much appreciated.
That’s a great shot! All the colors are vibrant and contrasting.

Holly, the composition is great, those leaves look so lush and the row of houses on the skyline give it a real sense of place. I don’t know American flora at all so I’m not going to weigh in on what they might be, I’m going to take it that they are Marsh Orchids :)
Having that critical eye for your own work whether it’s photography or any creative thing is the spur that helps you improve, but don’t get too hung up on how it “could have been” a great shot – most people looking at this picture just see the great shot that it alreadyis.
It is what it is and the next one could well be even better – I love that thought. Could go on about it forever but it’s kind of impolite to not visit for a week then start a bloody lecture :D

Hi and thanks, BPOTW. I do like the colors here, as I’m a big fan of blues and greens.

Hey there Bird. Hee-hee…lecture away! Although, it didn’t seem like a lecture at all to me, but some friendly and helpful advice. So, I thank you and you’re exactly right! Yeah, when I look back at some of the older photos I’ve posted, I think, “Holy cow! What was I thinkin’??” And that does seem to help down the road. I just have to quit obsessing, I think.
