Those really are some great falls…okay, enough bad puns…takes me back to the utterly miserable period of my life not long ago when I was living outside Ithaca NY…life’s one big consolation being frequent visits to the local gorges with their waterfalls…haven’t seen a real waterfall since…
I love the rocks at the middle and how the strong current of water pass through it. I have never been to Virginia yet, I hope to visit that part of the country someday.
Hi BeadedTail and thanks so much. Yeah, Great Falls is especially dangerous this time of year. And thank you for the tag. I’ll be over to check it out…

Hi drjay. I remember you talking about that time—it was before you moved closer to your mom, I think. And I mentioned that we vacationed up there once, drove through NY all the way up to Niagara Falls. I’ll have to drag out those photos because I remember we took a lot. That was the first time I saw any falls other than Great Falls, which never seemed, to me, to be a real waterfall. So, it sounds like you haven’t ventured back there…

Hi betchai. Yeah, the currents are really strong and each year people are warned to stay out of the water. There’s always someone who doesn’t listen, though.
Holly whoa – that is some serious looking water. It seems like it comes right out of the ground at you. I hope you had a bungee cord wrapped around you as you took the photograph.
Hi Koe. Yeah, these waters are pretty dangerous and unfortunately, someone dies every year when they’re caught up in the currents. I took this from one of the viewing areas so I was behind a railing…although a bungee cord sounds like fun!
Hi PM. This is not too far, maybe a 20-minute drive. These waters run along the Virginia-Maryland border and empty into our Potomac River. The shoreline on the right-hand side of the photo is the state of Maryland.
Yes, we had a good hold on Lucy as she was all over the place…she loves it there! Only after returning home and reading the brochure did I realize that poisonous copperhead snakes live among the rocks…yikes!

Hi Jennifer. Yeah, it seems as though it rains every couple of days…just won’t dry out! But all that rain does make for nice rapids.
That’s funny—one of the reasons I like your place so much is your writings on your growing up here. Your writing is so beautiful and expressive and it always draws me in.
Thanks so much, Hicham. Photos really don’t do justice to Great Falls. They don’t show all the churning and rushing very well, at least my photos don’t. I agree, amazing…
Hi Svasti…glad you like it. Those waters are powerful and I wish my photo showed that. Maybe a video would’ve been better. Then you could hear the water.

I love coming here — it reminds me of home. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Great Falls.
