Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…
Okay, maybe not, but this is one of my favorite things—a stained glass, road bike suncatcher. Signed by the artist on the lower front wheel, AL “90,” W brought it back from one of his TOSRV bike trips in the early 90′s, and I think it’s a downright cool piece of bike art. The only coloring the artist used was a piece of beige glass for the saddle. You can’t see that well from my photo, but I opted for its silhouette hanging in our oversized, late 40′s picture window.
So, what’s one of your treasures? I’d like to know…

Holly – the bicycle suncatcher is neat looking. I have every piece of artwork the kids have ever brought home from school. . . I know 12 years of combined schooling so far means a mountain of stuff. They’re not all ‘treasures’ as such but some are really nice (to me). There’s a scan of Jilly’s hand on my site from a few weeks back that sort of fits the bill. But the thing I thought of first when I read your posting was the 3/4 size guild acoustic guitar that was my brother’s. It’s forty years old, sounds sweet, looks like it’s been through exactly what it’s been through which is a story in itself. I can’t wait to read what other people will write.

Well, I would call that bike suncatcher one of my treasures, too, if it were mine! First thing that comes to mind out of my stuff is a tiny 2x2x1″ wooden music box , with laser carved-out forest scene on top. It plays “Evergreen” (Streisand) and was given to me by my mother when I was in the 28-day alcohol treatment center in 1985. Little things mean a lot. :)

Given that I like bikes, and things that make rainbows (I own multiple sun-catchers) I think your little treasure is downright awesome!!

That’s a lovely suncatcher. One of my treasures is a New Orleans scene painted on a slate roof tile. It reminds me of a wonderful vacation trip.

Hi and thanks, Koe. Yes, 12 years of artwork is a lot and I can understand how it might be hard to choose. The guitar sounds like a really nice treasure, especially since it belonged to someone so close to you. Do you play it? And might you post someday about its travels? (Maybe you’ve already done so and I haven’t found the post, yet!)

Thanks, Lydia. Ahhh, a beautiful treasure…whenever you play the music you can be reminded of your mom and her support during that time. That’s nice. I think that sounds and smells would have to be among my more intangible treasures.

Thanks, Svasti. Of course, this is just one of my many treasures, so stay tuned!

Hi and thanks, Janie. I think that souvenirs are some of the best treasures. Doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it evokes the feelings of that time spent in that particular place…
Mine is a pure smile from a baby becuase in this case it’s honest and has nothing to hide behind excpet pure joy, happiness.

Hi Hicham. I agree that that is a treasure. Babies have yet to be influenced by the world around them, and we know what that’s like…

Hi Icy BC and thanks. I did like the trees and sky from behind.
I love that stained glass bike! I have a collection of funky/colored glass, myself. It’s actually outgrown my space & I even gave a piece away the other day. I think my most treasured possession, however, is a unicorn light my brother gave me when I was about 15. I still have it & it still works. I’ll have to try to get a picture of it someday…

Hi Andy and thanks for stopping by. Wow, is that a sunrise from one of your travels? How beautiful! I see that you have some new photography sites, so I’ll need to go take a look to see all the nice nature you’ve captured. Stay safe out there and give a ‘hi’ to Mel! :o)
Holly – yes, I do play. Thanks for asking. I’ve not written about the guitar or it’s travels. There’s a picture of my brother on THLoL and he’s sort of the narrator in the story ‘Almost California’ which I think you may have read. As I think about it, the Guild’s aura might be in that story too. I don’t know why. . . but every time I’m over here at E2H it starts me thinking. . . I think it’s those songs – - – > I’m not even listening today and I can hear them.

Hi Lana and thanks…I remember your colored glass collection. It was arranged on a tall shelf in front of a window and looked very cool. I, too, love colored glass. I hope you do post your unicorn. I’d like to see it. :o)

Hi Koe. I do remember that post and may revisit it… I kinda know what you mean about the music. For me it’s inspirational if I’m thinking of writing about the past…just puts me in that place, although I’ve yet to really write much about the past. I have to just do it…thing is, I’m not a writer, per se, so it takes me longer…a lot longer…

This is a fantastic thing Holly, real treasure! You know I have no idea actually what my treasure is? R maybe, and perhaps my pair of needle nose pliers. I do have a tiny picture of my father when he was young and filmstar beautiful inside a tacky bakelite heart… actually that fulfils the brief a little better, doesn’t it?

Thanks, Bird. Those are great treasures and I totally “get” them…three of of your loves. I should really narrow my definition of “treasures” as I have so much stuff around here that I can easily see some ordinary stuff getting mixed in. I’ll have to keep this in mind for my next treasures post!
nice :D
