These are the tiny blossoms of a redbud tree of which I posted a photo this past Sunday. Speckled with last night’s rain, these are from a tree I found in Mason District Park this morning on Lucy’s walk.
And in keeping with my style of pairing a photo with a seemingly unrelated story, here goes.
Redbuds always remind me of a certain stretch of the W&OD Trail in Virginia that W and I used to ride each year at this time. Actually, he would faithfully do the ride—I would tag along if I was *sigh* feelin’ it. This particular length of bike path was just east of Leesburg and was heavily lined with redbuds that loomed over us from both sides. Cruising along, the banks of the path would become a beautiful blur of reddish-purple.
The Leesburg ride was in preparation for TOSRV, the Tour of the Scioto River Valley, a two-day, 200-mile bike tour that takes place each year in Ohio on Mother’s Day weekend. W and friends would always make the Leesburg ride the weekend before TOSRV and would ride from the beginning of the trail in Shirlington to Leesburg, have lunch, then ride back for a total of around 80-90 miles. While I only rode TOSRV once, W and a friend made the trek for many years.
If ever I write of my love for cheese and mustard sandwiches, fear not, a mention of my own TOSRV adventure will certainly rear its ugly head!
Hmmm, Rod Stewart was right…every picture does tell a story.

No, Holly, I’m sorry, but Rod Stewart was never right about anything….
Nonetheless, cheese and mustard sandwiches are cool, and so’s the W&OD…I think I walked/ran on part of it near Harper’s Ferry and biked part of it into DC from somewhere out in the DC burbs…maybe…
Anyway, love the tiny purple flowers with the tinier raindrops on them….

Hi Holly,
As much as I love cheese, I hate mustard, particularly “English” mustard (a paste concoted in the fourth level of Hades). Mrs PM loves the stuff and eats it by the jarful.
Like I said – I am weird
:-)
Cheers
PM

Oh c’mon drjay…not even “Mandolin Wind’? Oh well…
It sounds like you may have been on the C&O Towpath, drjay. It runs from D.C. up through MD and is a dirt path. The W&OD is only in VA running from Shirlington west to Purcellville and is completely paved, but who knows, you could’ve hopped onto the W&OD somewheres along the way.
Really, you like c&m sandwiches too? But have you ever fed one to a horse and made him sick? Aha…I didn’t think so!
Thanks for the comp-lee-ment!

Hi PM,
I like what I call (possibly what most Americans call) yellow mustard. It’s tangy, but not hot. I’m not that crazy about hot mustards because I think they sometimes cover the taste of whatever you’re eating. And how about Chinese mustard? Whoa, now that’s hot!

Thanks so much betchai.
That’s right, you don’t get much rain there. Holy cow, I’ll trade ya! We’ve had a lot of rain here for the past few weeks and everything is just damp. Not to mention the mosquitos it will soon bring… :o(

Hi Hesham and thank you so much! I’m glad that you like them. More flowers to come as I’ve been crawling around in the front yard with the camera…

Thanks Vanilla. Looking back at it, I wish it were a little sharper…maybe next time!
There are redbud trees in our area, although I can’t get much to grow in my own yard. They’re so lovely!
