Although Lucy’s usual lookout is on the side of the hill in our backyard, this seems to be her newfound favorite.
Yesterday we found her perched here, where she has a bird’s eye view straight through the porch and into the kitchen. From this vantage point she can keep an eye on us as well as the status of the dreaded harness that she knows hangs on the other side of the kitchen door. I don’t know where we went wrong with her upbringing, but she won’t come near us when it’s time for her walk and we need to put that thing on. As soon as she’s caught and buckled in, she’s normal again and ready to go. ‘Tis one of her few “issues.”
Here she eyes me nervously wondering if I have the harness, but soon realizes that I only have the camera, the lesser of the two evils.

Wow–I think that might be the best Lucy pic I’ve seen yet–so much personality!
Doggie neuroses are interesting–though the ultimate cause of them, let’s face it, is always the same…dogs’ close contact with the species that invented “issues”….

Lucy has the sweetest eyes, she looks like a precious pup! My dog has “issues” too, don’t know where they come from, but they’re there :)

Thanks, drjay, and Lucy thanks you—she loves compliments!
Yes, their issues do stem from ours, don’t they? Just like children, they are influenced by our habits and quirks. I can see that in the differences between Emma and Lucy. Adopted at 4, we knew nothing of Emma’s background, but from her condition we don’t think that she was treated well and she carried evidence of that throughout her life. Lucy, though, was luckier. She was born into a foster family that gave her a lot of love and attention and she now enjoys all the normal doggie things that poor Emma didn’t.
Still don’t know where we went wrong on the harness thing, though… :o|

Thanks, NanjoDogz. Yes, she is precious and she also knows how to play us! I think YogaforCynics is right—they get their issues from us… :o|

Thanks, PM.
Yes, she looks like that’s exactly what she’s thinking! She is always so aware when the camera’s around—she can be in a deep sleep, but perk up as soon as she hears me turn on the camera. I have to give her credit, though, for not running like she does when she sees the harness!
I like the way she’s sitting on one step with her FRONT feeT on another. Our lab does the same thing on the sofa.

This is a wonderful picture, how expressive her face is! I love how she is curled into the space of the fire escape. Our fire escape is snowy again like yours… and I have so many snow pictures and no idea when I’ll find time to share them :)

[...] Lucy’s new lookout isn’t really new anymore. She’s become quite nimble at maneuvering the spiral staircase and I swear she must climb these steps a zillion times a day now. Here she poses in the “go-go cage.” [...]
[...] buttercups have been harder to capture than Lucy at harness time, and I’ve taken so many buttercup photos, without success. I’m not especially happy [...]
