This is what I saw as I looked out the backdoor first thing this morning. There was a bright blue sky giving way to a bank of thick, white clouds that morphed into a dark, brooding hue. The whole mix of weather “emotions” was washed with light from the rising sun.
Today, on the last day of 2008, this reflects how I am feeling. Having just returned a few days ago from the Christmas holiday, I am coming off of an emotional low…crawling out from under a heavy blanket of angst that has smothered me for the past month. My blue sky is slowly returning, though, and the cast of sunlight reminds me to focus on the “big picture” where all is rather beautiful.
A happy and prosperous New Year to all…

I’ve missed my (and your!) blog terribly as I’m away for the holidays and have had only a few moments to take advantage of the sparse internet access. Life should be normal again in a few days and I’ll for sure pay you a visit. If you happen to stumble across here first, take a look at a photo I took Christmas morning in eastern Kentucy, USA. The ground was frosty and the temperature was around 20 degrees F…not cold enough to keep Lucy from her morning walk!

While visions of scampering squirrels dance in her head…or visions of birds, dead mice, goose poop, etcetera…
I had hoped to capture a festive Lucy awake but because of her overly excited state this morning, all photos of her were shaken and stirred—just a whoosh of brown with a wisp of red that was her cheesy holiday bow. Attempts to get a decent photo required repeat commands of SIT! and STAY! that besides being ineffective, wore the poor girl out and sent her running for the comfort of the futon. It was now or never if I wanted a holiday Lucy pic and she was so tired, she barely knew I was taking advantage of her placid state. As she slept she may have also had visions of another dog in the household to take the pressure off. Oh, the burden of being a precious creature!
Lucy and family will be away for a week or two beginning tomorrow. Internet access is uncertain so posting will be touch ‘n go (in other words, same-ole, same-ole…aaargh!). I’d like to take this opportunity to throw a big THANK YOU! to all my readers, especially to you guys over there on the blogroll—you’re the best!
A happy holiday to all!

Yet, another sky photo taken from the dog park!
I like those few beams of light that radiate up and illuminate the sky. I imagine hearing “Ta-da!” as the setting sun heralds the clouds above.

Lucy sits at one of her favorite spots—on the side of the hill in our backyard, beside a giant oak. From this vantage point she can keep a close eye on birds, squirrels and her neighborhood buds as well as foxes, racoons and an occasional deer.
We live only yards from a busy pike in a heavily populated area, yet, twice I have seen from our living room window deer standing in the middle of the street. How nice to see them practically in our front yard, except that this only means that development has shrunken their habitat, and they are driven into whatever wooded areas they can find, usually in neighborhoods surrounded by heavy traffic.
