I’m so lovin’ these vocals

In an act of procrastination I’ve been trolling playlist sites for new music to add to, well, my playlists. In such music searches I usually begin by digging up some melody from the back of my head, some song that I know neither the title nor artist or only know one or the other but nonetheless remember liking it and am determined to find it. One such song appeared on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young box set. I hadn’t listened to them in awhile, so the song’s name escaped me, but into the second disc I finally discovered it…track 12, “Urge for Going,” David Crosby and Graham Nash. Now onto playlist.com.

The search there brought up the original version, written and sung by Joni Mitchell in the 60s—yay!—the link was broken—aaaarh. I moved on and searched lastfm.com that rendered plenty of versions…CSN&Y (the take I was originally looking for), Joni Mitchell, Tom Rush and others but also offered a YouTube video by CitizenWorm. I listened and was pleasantly surprised. She has a beautiful voice and it’s worth a listen.

  • That is a lovely version–I used to have this great bootleg tape of an early Joni Mitchell concert at a club in Philly, where she played songs that ended up on her early albums as well as this one and a whole bunch that were never released. I’m sure somebody’s put it in digital form somewhere….

  • Yes, isn’t it? It’s nice to see that young vocalists appreciate her music and put their own spin on it. I bet you can find that concert if you look hard enough!

  • I’d not heard this in forever! How lovely, and that this young woman is singing Joni’s songs. I’ve noticed a lot of young people are sing songs from the late 60s and early 70s. I mean, kids I know who are 14 and 15 are singing these songs and have old cassettes or old songs on DVD. That was a potent time in history and the music was rich and emotional. I love it!
    Hugs to you!!!
    Robin :)

  • Thanks for comin’ by Robin. I just can’t tear myself away from the music of the 60s/70s…I also just love it! And yes, I’m glad that the “older” music is appreciated. After all, if not for yesterday’s music, how would today’s music be? :o)

  • My roommate introduced me to Joni’s music.
    C,S,N, & Y came to my high school !

  • Wow! Actually, I didn’t see CSN&Y until much later (about 8 yrs. ago) when they came to Wolftrap. David Crosby’s voice is amazing…he’s yet to “lose” it as some older singers do.

  • Im loving this song at the moment :-D Thanks for the direction :-)

I suppose its nearly ok to listen to “River” now its “comin’ on Christmas”… (!)

    :-)
