Is my post title an oxymoron or what? For the past month I’ve been creeping into strangers’ yards, snapping away, hoping to get pics of some really good cheesy Halloween stuff, but realized quickly that besides the artsy-carved pumpkins, everything else was plenty cheesy but was also plenty awful. I’m talking about those white-plastic-trashbag ghosts hung from trees—c’mon people! I was pleased to find though that my favorite Halloween yard art was also found on the west coast by Jason of Jason in Hollywood.
I did find one other decoration that is a little different, though not exceptional. It’s a hologram, kind of like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on a tombstone. I admit it’s lame, but it’s the best I could do. I think the economy has something to do with it.
Anyway, enjoy Halloween if it’s your thing and be careful in traffic tonight!

Holy cow, what a difference 16 months and 38 pounds make—look at the backside on this girl! I’m certain that if she could talk we’d hear, “But the camera adds 10 pounds, woof!” or “It’s the fur coat, woof!”. Yeah, okay, whatever you ‘bark’ Miss Loo.

I realize it’s autumn and everyone is focused on the yellows and oranges and reds, but I recently saw this pink flower and immediately noticed how out of place it looked amidst the golden foliage and browning grasses. I think it may possibly be a type of Bougainvillea, but am not sure (please comment if you know otherwise!). For those of you who prefer warmer temperatures and a spring-time feel in the air, look at this beautiful flower, then close your eyes and imagine…

This is one of my favorite Chinese goodies that W brings back to me from his trips to Chinatown in New York City. They’re baked sponge cakes—very tender and light and not too sweet, and they go perfectly with tea or coffee at breakfast. Their shape is unique—they seem to be baked in a pan with cone-shaped cups, possibly the kind used to bake ice cream cones.
I’ve been searching for a recipe to make my own, but have yet to find one. If I find it, I’ll try it out and post the results!
