This is Lucy, our 28-month-old Border Collie/Chow Chow/Akita/Borzoi. Yes, a doggy DNA test detected these breeds and described them as “in the mix.” Not a smidgen of Golden Retriever nor German Shepherd was found (we were told mom was part golden and markings suggested dad might be a shepherd). Adopted at 10 weeks, bringing up puppy has been a trip, but we’ve lived to tell the tale (no pun intended) and now enjoy the likes of a beautiful, gentle, intelligent, dog-and-people-loving, SPOILED companion. Go here for more of Lucy and her friends!

Lucy looks like a sweetheart, with an interesting pedigree. Then, from what I understand, genetically, domestic dogs are all essentially Russian timber wolves….
Thanks Yoga…yes she is a huge sweetheart. So much so that she visits each dog owner in the dog park before she deals with her doggy friends. BTW, Fargo is adorable…please post more photos!
She is completely and utterly gorgeous!! My folks want me to get one of those tests done for my sweet dog, too. We’ve been arguing over his ancestry for almost seven years now! What is your take on those tests? Did you trust the outcome? Was the expense worth it? Was it expensive? I’d love it if you’d do a post on them! :)

Your dog is just beautiful..I had to see this. We have a shepherd chow chow girl who is 2 years old. We love her and she’s the first dog that ever slept with us in the house. What a difference! Cheers to your baby!

You have such great pictures on your site. Its obvious that your such a big dog lover.
Thanks so much, Peggy, and thanks for stopping by. Oh yeah, we’re huge dog lovers here…how can you not love them. Right? :o)
Lucy is absolutely adorable and is the spitting image of one of my Tri-colored border collies called Saffie, only Lucy has more tan. You can definitely see Lucy has a lot of Border Collie in her. Will you breed her?

Hi Jon and Lucy and I thank you for the compliments. Funny, a lot of people have told us they used to have dogs that looked just like Lucy, and two people have sent me pics of their dogs who look a lot like her. Must be a common “mix” or something. No, she was spayed when she was around 6 months, so no puppies. Although I would love to have one of hers.
My favourite dog breed it’s the labrador retriever . I like it a lot because it’s a large breed and it’s very friendly with people . Your blog it’s very good, thanks for sharing interesting articles.
I agree about Labs although I think the Golden Retriever is my favorite, as far as breeds go. Of course, any dog is a good dog!
I’m glad you enjoyed the blog and thanks for stopping by!
Hi Holly what a shame you had her spayed. She would have had lovely pups. I am going to get Saffie spayed too as much as I would like her to have pups, I think there are too many unwanted dogs out there already.

I know, Jon, we would love to have a Lucy puppy…if only dogs had one at a time rather than so many! But, yeah, I agree that there are too many unwanted dogs and spaying is the most responsible thing to do.
Solid, good post. I love posts like this.
Oh my gosh my sister had a dog that looked exactly like her! Her name was Hazel and her nose was pink and black striped…For a second i thouth that was her then i looked at the nose! This picture made me cry because Hazel died a couple onths ago from cancer….I never saw a dog that looked like her till now.(:
